MvR and SE5a Photos

I found the following photos in my father's collection:

Manfred von Richthofen. It looks like a copy of a photo rather a print from a negative:

And two different shots of Australian SE5as. These were printed from negatives in the RAAF archive I believe:

Any information on the subjects is appreciated

I don't have much detail on the Richthofen photo but I'll share what I can. I believe that this was taken as a newspaper PR photo and he is standing near a Fokker Dr1. There are 2 other similar photos of MvR posed in his fur coat which had formerly belonged to his father. I don't know what kind of fur the coat is made from...this was discussed sometime in the past here on the forum but no positive ID was found. The set of 3 fur coat MvR photos can be found in "Richthofen" by A.E. Ferko.

Blue skies!

The coat looks a bit campy... would suit to the Blackadder-series

Hi Brinesharks, the first photo is of an Australian SE5a but the second photo is of a line up of 85 Squadron SE5a's at St Omer. There are a few different photos in the series, and I am sure they were taken by an Official photographer. The closest SE5a, coded "Z" belonged to Billy Bishop, and the second one, with the "X" on the fuselage and the "T" on the top wing belonged to Elliot White Springs, who wrote "Saggitarius Rising". Regards, David.

Just a minor correction here: E.W. Springs wrote "Warbirds" (and a handful of other books). "Sagittarius Rising" was Cecil Lewis.

Thanks for all the replies - really appreciate the amount of knowledge on this forum!

I believe my father came across them during his photographic training in the 1960s in the RAAF. His course practiced developing photo recon film from DH Mosquitoes and P-38 Lightnings. They had to interpret Japanese installations! He and a friend used to go through the old negatives in the archives and must have come across the WW1 pics. He also has a few good WW2 pics.
