Unhappy

Were do I start....

I have been studying 425/17 fabric samples for a while now and from all the photos I have of the fabric samples held at RCMI, AWM, IWM and others in private collections this piece is not similar to what I have seen.

The first thing that stands out is how the paint is running over the edges and the fibers from the edges can’t be seen. I have seen both cut and torn edges and this piece’s edges don’t match the other samples.

The color is different.

The texture is different.

What the heck are all the fine white lines?

No thread count.

No back side photo, Bleach or unbleached fabric.

Until this piece gets examined I will say that it doesn’t match the known samples. This does not rule it out but is an unlikely piece from 425/17. This makes me think is this piece was made by Rodney.

Lloyd...

Even if it were real, I would not pay anything for such a small piece. I would not want to encourage cutting historically significant artifacts into such small pieces that they are useless.

Agreed! There are so many splinter-size "relics" claiming to be from the cross Jesus was crucified on that you could make many wooden crosses. The limitation to relic hunting is "caveat emptor". I am happy to visit a museum to see originals, and air shows to see (mainly) replicas.

My Gallery
Looks more like a piece of beef jerky than fabric.

I see that there are now three bids on this 'historic" piece.

Pssst. if you like that I've got a swell bridge in Brooklyn I can sell to you. It's only a little used and I can write a nice letter for you saying it is all yours once you send me your money. Here is a photo of it.

Kidding aside - there is zero provenance with that thing, and as others have said the fabric itself is not even half convincing.

Whether or not there are other bidders tells you nothing about whether it is real. There are plenty of "marks" out there willing to place their money on such things, and sometimes the sellers put in shill bids - though there is no way to tell if that is happening on this lot.

Can you pls send me details on the bridge. I have a potentially interested buyer -- a tourist who thinks he used it while travelling into the city from JFK airport by cab which charged him 1,000 bucks!
