Albatros D.Va "Stropp" art work on eBay

There is a print of the NASM's Albatros D.Va, "Stropp" for sale on eBay. The art work is the painting that appears on the covers of the NASM book about the restoration of the NASM's Albatros D.Va, "Stropp".

The item number is 300257164641

That looks like a nice print. The one to get, though, is the National Air and Space Museum's poster of this Albatros D.Va that they sold in a small quantity back in the late 1970s. Those have affixed to them a 2 inch by 2 inch square of the actual original fabric from this famous Albatros. It is really something to be able to have a real piece off of the 'Stropp' hanging on your own wall.

Wow! $599.00!
I guess the signatures are worth $590 since I bought a copy of that print about 2 months ago for $9.00 including shipping. Printed by the Smithsonian in 1981.
The image is actually larger on the book.
Regards,
John

Jim, I have seen the prints with the fabric on eBay as well. I will probably get one one day. I think it's a shame to see the fabric cut into small bits, but as you said, yes it is very nice to be able to purchase a small piece of this historic aeroplane. I don't think these prints feature the same art work do they? I particularly like this print because it is very realistic, and shows Stropp as it would have been. When it was printed on the cover of the NASM book, the image was incomplete because it wrapped around to the rear cover. I like this print because it shows the full picture.

John, yes it's probably a bit steep, but I really love the art work! I won't be bidding on it though, and since you have told me that it is available currently, I might get a copy of it one day.

Thanks for the tips guys! Regards, David.

The ones with the real fabric have an old black and white photo with a single color tint overall. It is a very nice effect. Back in the day when I bought my at the Smithsonian I asked Don Lopez about the series of these they did (I forget how many they did, I think it was about 7 or 8 different aircraft). Don was the deputy director of the National Air and Space Museum at the time. He said they saved the main pieces of the fabric for the museum and used the small scraps they did not have a use for to make a limited number of those posters to give the public a chance to have a piece of some of the famous aircraft in the museum. The practice only lasted a couple of years, though and I doubt they will ever do it again.
