You know much, much more than I - so I was just making a WAG!

When I get back in town, I need to spend some time trying to ascertain as to whether the combination of the letter D and the -464 to the right of the tail indicates a squadron or division or...um yea, some type of WWI unit designation thing!

Back to the packing!

Back and two jewels in the mailbox - more balloons

A letter home to his bride, but only the envelope is here. Great postage piece though.

A nice fesselballon image with a note on the back.

Well I hadn't ever seen one of these - but WOW! I have another thing to keep an eye out for. These are amazing.

I got two more this past week. I LOVE THIS ONE - look at those bombs and the cocksure attidue of the young guy standing next to them on the left! Also look at what looks like a WHITE cross marking.

The back has a date "9.8.17" on it. First World War.com - On This Day - 9 August 1917

I really need to get a few books for identification purposes.

Right now is a good time to start the looking price wise. Some are selling there collections do to the times were living in. Beware it's addictive to try to have one of each.

Another ebay find - real foto of a fessel

This is a great fessel that was docked in a grove of trees. The photo is light, but I darkened it a bit and here is how that looks - lots of details come out.

Not much for identification on the back, sorry to say, but a note confirming it was a German ballon which is nice since both sides used these.

German Caquot being raised near bunkers

Here is a German Caquot being either deployed or brought in along the German rear are of the lines - or so it would seem from the contrast adjusted zoom also posted. No identifying numbers or markers though to help id this RPPC.

I have an American one coming - and I can only hope for some more info on the back of it! We'll see.
