Fessel Gondola - 30 Nov 1917 postcard
Here is a printed photo card of the gondola and the crew. The postcard was cancelled 30 Nov 1917.
Need to see if I can obtain a few more Allied balloon images - have not seen any of late. But am continually looking...nor have I had a chance to stop at that one shop that has a few...hmh...well will keep that in mind in the next month or two.

Pity there was some damage, probably the packing was not sufficient (no cardboard ?) to protect the picture.
I did a digital restoration, which cures quite a lot of the damaga A beauty of a picture, thanks for looking at this one.
Cheers

Kees - thank you. It's a great image and yes, there was no cardboard in the thing. SIGH... But, still it's now shared and in a digital form. Thanks for the repair work.

German Caquot - No date - great action
Well mates this arrived in better condition. The first is the image as it scanned...the second is my playing with the contrast and then resizing it to make it a bit more manageable for the forums.
Lost out on a great image over the weekend - just so happened as the final minutes were going, my fam called from across the state...I was trying to raise my bid while figuring out why every phone was going off...well someone got a great DH4 image other than me. So it goes!

French Balloon Crew - note airplane in the background
Hey folks -
Thought I would share the newest to arrive here. This one is from France...
Now my wife's high school French paid off - she said the letter appeared to be to the writer's family, probably his older kids. She said some of the handwriting was a bit of a challenge.
Thought I would share it with everyone.
HAPPY 4th of JULY to those in the States!

Thanks for the view of this interesting vintage picture, Ritterton. Great view. This card must have been written somewhere / sometime (jeudi soir - thursday evening) by Papa (Votre papa qui vous aime bien - Your dad who loves you very much) to his children (Mes beau chéries - My beautiful loved ones).
Probably the writer had this card to hand to write The card was never send by post (no adressee, no stamp), but probably brought by an acquiantance at the right destination.
Cheers
Kees

Kees -
My wife's high school French teacher should be extremely proud, as you confirmed what she said. And it has been oh...let's just say a couple decades or so since she was in high school.
Thank you for this confirmation. Much appreciated.

French Fessel - but an aerial shot no less!
This is a great image that I found on line. Love the coloring on this one and the fact that it is an aerial.

Given the text on this picture 'Saucisse Allemande en observation' this is German obsevation balloon. German national markings (Eisernes Kreuz) are invisible though. It could be that this is a picture made by a French plane of this German obsevation balloon.
I think this is a very rare piece. Pictures of observation balloons are mostly taken from the ground or when in flight from the obsevation basket down. Interesting are all the lines, probably connected to winches to get the balloon down in case of emergency (attack !).
Cheers
