Two Interesting Items

I was at a military collectibles show this past weekend here in Alabama nd one vendor had two interesting items for sale. The first was a book autographed by Billy Bishop. It was in really nice shape and the seller wanted $175. The second item was much more interesting. It was a message from a front line German unit sent to a German Jasta confirming a kill for Ernst Udet. The seller wanted $600 and I would have purchased it in a second had I not had to go home to my wife and explain it to her.

Let me guess, the book was "The People's War" by Billy Bishop? You did well to keep on walking. I believe he signed all of those. The going price for them is about $50 or a bit less if you look around.

As for the letter about the Udet confirmation, I would insist on some pretty thorough checking to insure it is real. Forgeries of this kind of material is not uncommon.

A signed first American edition of Bishop's "Winged Warfare", a rarer book than the "People's Warbook" just sold on Ebay for $36 ( 310150194694). A good price for tha book, but it shows that the book for sale at the show was no bargain.

I found a copy of this in an antiques shop for just $5. At that price, I couldn't pass it up. It's not in the best condition but BB's page is OK.

A while back I paid $50 for just the signed page of the people war.. not the best deal now that I think about it

Sure would have been nice to pick up that signed winged warfare, I have the same first edition but alas unsigned. I guess I need to check ebay more often.
