Two more postcards...

...found in a Zurich fleamarket.

Note: the reverse sides have no writing on them (except the French has printed "carte postale" and "correspondance"), only the standard pre-printed underlines (for address, etc.).

We can make this a mini quiz:

1. "Guynemer" card: i.d. the plane and the place exhibited.
2. "Walfisch" (nice camouflage): any info on unit and location.

The "Guynemer" card shows a crashed Gotha in Paris. It looks so strange because all the parts are rearranged to give a rough picture how this plane looks to the public…
It is said that this was Guynemer´s 31.victory Febr. 8th 1917.

I just cannot recall the name of the place in Paris…..

Sorry - no more information about the Walfisch, beside the obvious...

Found the location of the French postcard...

according to the following lead:
Avions exposs Nancy2

it shows the "guynemer" postcard and is among a collection of photos showing captured aircraft in NANCY, France (Place Stanislas). it mentions that the crew of the Gotha was captured.

check it out. very interesting and very inspiring for the local population to see "les avions boches abattus!"

I have seen a couple of other postcards of a Gotha Guynemer forced down and on exhibition, but the plane was essentially intact. Interesting camouflage to the Walfisch.

Hi,

The Gotha was indeed shot down by Guynemer and Adjutant Chainat of Escadrille N3 on 8 February 1917, at 1115 hrs near Bouconville. It reportedly came from Kagohl 2, and all three occupants were taken prisoner - though I've been unable to discover their names.

The postcard does show it in Nancy, in the Place Stanislas where many captured German a/c were exhibited - and photographed for posterity!
