The fellow can't be Manschott... he was dead by this time. Also, this fellow is wearing an observer's badge, not a pilot's badge. If is is Hannover, it is most likely at the FEA there. This aircraft was used during the Spring thru late Summer of 1917. There was film footage taken during this time by Fokker and it appears in some of the archival films. This may have been taken during the time he flew back to Germany following his 52nd victory.

that is the problem with most books, due to a limited size of the audience the quality of the published pictures rarely matches the actual photographic material. Alas once a picture has been published it is usually in some way and form available (unless it gets lost or ends up in a closed collection). Value of these pictures is very much dependent on the fact that it is an unpublished/unknown image... the pictures of the crashes are not really scarce and the planes that came down are not that interesting. I bought a similar collection of pictures for a lot less about a year ago so my guess is that the MvR pics really drove the price up which is unusual. I guess that whenever an auction is highlighted here the big collectors win, which in some cases is actually a god thing as this ensures preservation and often future exhibition.
