Concerning Albatros 3 and 2 color camo applications on the upper wing surfaces. Should these be done with a hard demarcation line between the colors or should it be slightly feathered? Thanks

Rick,
I don't have an authorative answer for you but I do have a question. I'm working on an RC Albatros DII. I haven't decided on the whether to use a 2 or 3 color scheme for the upper surfaces but its the lower surfaces that I'm stuck on. Should I be using a light blue or a doped fabric finish. The fuse is stained and varnished wood. From what I've been able to gather from pics of models here and other places on the web and in some printed sources, I'll be doing the front of the upper fuse and around the nose a grey color. If you have any insight on the struts' (landing gear, cabane and inter-plane) color I'd appreciate the help.
BTW, I usually use a soft edge but not a blurred edge to my schemes on the upper surfaces. I don't think they used spray guns to apply paint during this period, so they'd end up with fairly hard edges. I may be wrong but logic points this way.
Thanks,
Dave
(If you want to see my halberstadt DII go to the following url- http://www.aerodromerc.com - its on the opening page and there's a link to the model's instructions with more pics.)

My Gallery
Dottney:
Albatros D.II aircraft built by Albatros were spray painted in a three color assymetrical pattern of pale green, dark green and rust brown. The rudder was painted in the center color on the taiklplane. The undersides were painted sky blue. OAW also used three color camouflage scheme but in a symetrical pattern.
Blue skies,
Dan-San

Dottney:

I'm still new to this area, but from what I've read and seen the Albatros nose panels, prop hub, wheel covers, interplane, L/G and other struts, were painted a gray-green at the factory very close to the WWII RLM-02 gray. A number of WW1 modelers I've talked to in fact use RLM-02 for this color. Hope this helps

No problem Dave.
Dan-San answered my question. The wings were sprayed.

Hey all; remember that some repairs were done at the unit level. These repairs might have hard edges as Binks spray guns were usually available at the factory (or air park?) Then again the could blend the edges by stippling the brushes. HHHhhmmmm.......
