I love Jenny's they are my favorite WWI plane. The last I build was the old Lindberg kit at 1/48. I have an old balsa kit but afraid to build for 2 reasons:

1) Cat enjoy eating balsa.

2) No room to display.

spacecrow,if you want variety you have come to the right place. There are so many models of the Jenny that iiiit is confusing sometimes.I am presently doing a series of articles for www.largescaleplanes.com on the Jenny canuck and will post any major mods there. If you want to use a little artistic licence in your work the jenny is the way to go, if you want to build something other than the strictly military version. The Jenny, post WW1 up until 1929 when stricter air regs came in ,was fair game for just about any mods.Pilots often customized their airplanes to fly like they wanted.Modifing wings, changing stagger etc to suit themselves. It truly was a time of freedom in the air not like today with all the regs and more regs.,and more regs after that. There will never be again such an era in aviation.I cannot understand why there is such a lack of interest in this era especially amoung people who hold freedom so dear. Those airmen were the same as the american cowboy in nature and should hold a place of the same stature in our history.Well enough of my spouting off, I think i will go and start on the old girls lower wings. Cheers! John.

Internet Modeler has an article on one of the 1/72 scale Olimp Jennys.

They look like great kits.

Regards,

Has anyone ever modelled the rotary-powered Jenny that Howard Hughes had modified for "Hell's Angels"? That would be an amusing sight to see.

I did an article on building the Jenny for my local model club. You can cut & paste the following link.

http://www.graphicshangar.com/wwm/Se.../09_index.html

There is also a photo page that can be reached through the web articles section on the home page.

I am also planning on doing the early JN used in the 1916 Mexican campaign if I can find some good drawings to convert the Lindberg kit to the early version.

Dave. I found that the book Scale Aircraft Drawings vol1 by Air Age Publications a good starting point.I think that the version that you are looking for is a lot like the Canuck except that it would retain the JN4s shaped tail.Cheers! John.

John,

I have one of the OLIMP 1/72 Jennys. No 'Merican who loves bipes should be without one. I also have some pix from the Jenny at the Virginia Aviation Museum. Send me your email addy to tamcam@mindspring.com (it's my wife's email, mine has full SPAM blockage and you would likely get kicked out) and I shall send you many close-up detail shots of the exterior (a Jenny is a rigging nightmare I must warn you). Sorry, the museum wouldn''t let me crawl around in the pit!
