Using some old kit parts 1/72 scale I made molds to build various resin Nieuports 11, 17, 23, 27. Using Testors decal paper I made custom decals for my planes. Its fun! I also made a mold to do Halb CLII 1/72 done all by hand for which I am going to re work again. Also Spad 13's. Soon some Fokker DR1's as well. Here is a list of products and where you can buy them in the United States for scratch building resin for which I have found work best:

West Marine Boaters Polyester Resin : Store, West Marine : cost $12

Evercoat Mold Release: Store, West Marine : Cost $10

Super Sculpey Sculpturing Compound (this is a chip resitant compound used to make molds and is a better grade than the regular Sculpey Compound): Store : Michael's Crafts or possibly other craft stores. Cost $7

Evergreen Plastic: Store, about any hobby store may carry their scratch build plastic in various rods, sheets, etc..

Decal paper: Testors, $7

Spad 13 SPA 38. I have an early one with rounded wingtips for SPA48 which can be seen in background of one of the earlier photos. I have 2 more built but not painted. I am going to re work my molds for the Spad. Considering custom mold for a Spad 12 and 7 if I get around to it.

Fokker DR1 unpainted resin near complete. Guns made from Evergreen plastic as well as struts and rudder.

You can see the resin is a little transparent and the bright spot where the cockpit appears is actually from the resin being drilled out inside for the cockpit. I am not going for super detail of cockpit.

With making resin I have some ideas for building a factory scene of planes under production? !!

ps. No none of these are for sale and not a commercial venture. Just personal use and having fun learning the craft of resin!

sorry for the bad photo I hope to shoot some better ones in focus a little better. Here is the Halb CL I built from scratch in 1/72 scale resin. Only the parabellum is not scratch but a spare from a kit.

ps. My "production line" set up on our table in our living room is getting out of hand. Wife starting complain about all that resin smell. Fokkers, Spads, and Nieuport production must continue! LOL.

God I love modelling....lol.

Resin cures in about 30 minutes. Time to produce unpainted plane about 3 hours. Its the sanding that takes most time. The skill comes in at pouring the right amount of resin but also perfecting a mold. Improving this can cut down a lot of time.
