OK! here I have changed drawings for the installation of the cross braces,compression struts and internal wing wires.
I was going to substitute the metal compression struts for wood and just keep the end fittings.But they fit so well as is, I have decided to veneer them instead to look like wood.The thin strip of wood at the top of the pic is the very thin veneer that I will be using ,which is available in most hobby shops that handle RR stuff.
They will also need a little modification to handle the internal wing brace wires.
The large fitting on the outer struts are where the "N" or center section struts will join to the upper wing.
Wow! I love building wings.

good to hear you still have that cooking in the dark recesses of your mind!
Sounds like it would be a candidate for shadow box treatment...maybe a big a** shadowbox, but it would be spectacular!

Hi James! Welcome to the Drome.If you look at the diorama from the front it is almost a shadowbox and it was originally planned that way.The rest just happened along the way!

Underside of center section showing the veneered compression struts and their fittings.I would not glue them in for now until after dry fitting.
The wooden wing internal braces that run between rib and spar I would leave out for now until the run of the wires is determined, as nothing looks worse than bend wires.The braces can be tweaked a bit to fit if need be.some plans for the camel wing show none of these wood braces forward of the rear spar,so I may just leave them off all together.
Note:most Camel plans call for the compression struts to be attached to the top part of the spar.This is not the case here check the plans carefully.

The green part is actually the end of the fitting that runs under the rib and connects the center section to the upper wing sections.The other end of the fitting is protected by the gray part,which also helps protect the end ribs.Now its on to the wing wires and dry fitting the whole thing to the fuselage.

I have been thinking about the wings and ailerons.Do I make all of them,some of them or none of them.I could fake some wooden crates and be done with it.
What I think I will do is leave the fuselage closest to the side of the case free of any wings so that this side of the fuselage will be easily viewable.Two wings will be in crates and attached to the other side of the fuselage.On the other two wings I will leave some of the crates plywood panels open for inspection and they will be resting up against the hangar wall .I will place a rolled up tarp somewhere near the cockpit part of the fuselage.
I really can't see the point of building open wings which are basically of the same design as the center section which is already available for closeup inspection.More than likely at this stage the wings would have been already crated anyway.
Maybe I will build the other wings later and put them in the rafters of the hangar.
