Interplane Struts
The laser cut wing struts were carved to a streamline shape. They are the correct length however the drawings on sheet #2 are not.If you cut your struts to the length called for in the drawings ,they will be 5mm too short.Luckily I learned this after cutting only 1 of the struts. The correct length between the top of the bottom rib ,where it intersects with the rear strut, and the bottom of the top rib is 96 mm allowing for a 25mm stagger between the upper and lower wings.See fig 7-9 P35 of the instruction booklet and sheet#2 of the drawings. The 1 deg of dihederal will not effect this measurement. to be cont.....

Wing skids
Made up L/H lower wing tip skid. The kit supplies 3/32 square beechwood for this.Carve the wood round using sanding sticks and bend using water and a hair curler for heat.Attach fittings to each end and install to front and rear spars making sure that skid lines up straight with the rib. to be cont....

Hinges and Kingposts
I made myaileron hinges from brass bar 2X3X5mm long. There are 4 on the top wing and 3on the bottom. My reserarch indicates that they look like door hinges.Because they are mostly hidden when installed not too much detail is required here.I shaped mine to allow for some aileron deflection, mostly for interest sake.Problem is that I centralized the stick in the cockpit, so I will leave the control cables unattached(or being attached). The ailerons on the Canuck have no control horns or aileron braces.
The kingposts are laser cut but must be streamlined like the struts. All kingpost rigging has been eliminated except for the cables that run span wise on the wing.A much simpler arrangement than the JN4D. to be cont....

Laquering L/H wings
I laquered the L/H wings using a mix of 2/3 laquer and 1/3 laquer thinner.I used a small bristle brush and dunked it often in the thinner to keep it soft and free of any lumps.I find that one coat is sufficient as it soaks in and doesent leave any surface shineyness. If any areas develope shine, sand it with 600 or higher sandpaper.I debated using a matte spray laquer but decided against it as it would be to hard to control in all the nooks and crannys and on the brace wires.
Be careful with laquer as it is very flammable .Use a mask or vented fan for the fumes. If you were going to spray the laquer in a confined space I would invest in a sparkless fan ,the same type as they use to vent marine engine compartments. to be cont......

John, I dont know if you have found this link yet
http://www.kirchstein.net/Jenny.htm
There are 3 PDF files between the pictures that appear to be on line versions of the original handbook for the Jenny. Its interesting reading how they recommend rigging the aircraft..beware that if on a dialup connection..it will take a while to download as the JN-4D manual is 7 megs

Thanks Donny W
Great site. Thanks for the info.I havent had a chance to read it yet but the first few pages sure look interesting especially the maintence drawings for an aircraft under contruction. This will be very helpful to me when I place the aircraft in the diorama.Cheers! John.

Kingposts and Aileron sheaves
I used aluminium one sided sticky foil to make up the end fittings for the kingposts.I drilled a hole in the top and made up a double ended eyebolt for the braces. Then I drilled a hole in the bottom to pin it to the spar.Dont install them finally until all the wing fittings have been installed as they will surely get brok
en off .
I assembled the aileron control sheaves and used a brass rod u-bolts to fasten them to the spars( See fig 1-16)Because the Canuck has double ailerons the positioning of these sheaves are different than the JN4D.I will take pics of this arrangement when the wings are finally installed. to be cont...

Wingstrut fittings&final wing assembly
Wingstruts, landing and flying wires and interplane brace wire fittings installed.Wing set in proper position in the jig.Lower wing held steady with pins and clamps.Wingstruts then temporalily installed and the top wing was lowered into place.
Everything seems to line up OK.Dihderal, stagger, and the wingstruts look vertical and lined up one behind the other when looking from nose to tail. I will sleep on it tonite and check all measurments again and then finally glue the wingstruts in position. Whew!(see Fig 7-11 and sheet 6.) Now its on to rigging the wings. to be cont....
