One of our older instructor pilots crashed on the airfield the other day and was rescued by the ground crew just before the flash fire took over.I don't know if he made it or not but his companion Fritzy hasn't left the wreckage since .

This pilot and his crew chief are visiting our airfield from another airfield based closer to the front lines.I have been told that they have a special interest in this aircraft that is now undergoing a partial re-build and new fabric job.
It seems that the Blue Max that the pilot is wearing around his neck was won while piloting this airplane .He has come back to visit his old friend that got him through the early days of the war without a scratch. The old Albatros has now been reassigned as a trainer,I can only hope that she will take as good care of our new guys as she did of him.

Damn ! I hate this time. The waiting after the airplanes gone. All the guys are edgy and nervous and most of us would love to be there with our pilot buds rather than stuck here on the ground ,wondering. So many have not returned lately, what the hell is going on ?

Like these two guys I really can't get over how beautiful this Albatros design really is.Of all the aircraft that I have seen during this war, this and that French Nieuport 28 that was captured intact the other day,are the most beautiful biplanes in their design. What a shame it is to shoot down and destroy something so beautiful.

Heinz treats this airplane like it was his baby. When all the others have gone you will often find him still hanging around wiping her down and doing things most of us others don't even see.
