Looking for a Albatros DVa paint scheme

Anybody can point out me to a cool Albatros DVa paint scheme? I've searched thoroughly the Windsock, Squadron Signal and Osprey books , but all the paint schemes are for DVs or have been done.

I'm thinking of doing Bohnning's Bavarian diamonds pattern (title page spread in Osprey book) but it seems difficult to do even with masking tape. Anybody makes decals for this one?

Criteria:
- No black fuselage (dull)
- No JG Berthold scheme (red nose, blue fuselage), I want a change!
- No swastikas (too much embarrassing explanations)

Already considered and discarded:
Dilthey green and white stripes (overdone)
Greim silver and red (too much like a Pfalz)
Konnecke green tail (already doing a DV like that)

I like von Althaus yellow Albatros, but Stephen Lawson awesome build kinda discourages me from attempting

If at all possible, belonging to an ace with 10 or more victories.

Information on decal sets that have insignia of the aces would be appreciated (like those edelweiss flowers on Baümer machine)

Hope anybody has a good idea

Hey! Don't let me stop you. Trying doing one you like. While I like unusual schemes, you can't gauge your builds against mine. Let them be a springboard for you to excell and go beyond my attempts. That is really what the Aerodrome is all about. Try Dan San Abbott he has schemes in 3 views. Again Jasta 18 has some beauties. Red nose white tails ravens skulls, bands and etc in black. Try starting with your favorite colour, look for a scheme with that and go from there. Marine Feld Jasta birds can be very bright. Don't let awesome get in your way. My kit builds are not the summit of WWI aviation models and neither is my knowledge...There are several here that will agree whole heartedly. We all started a neophytes. Beginners and advance as we go. You may well be a far better builder in the rough. Also its not a good idea to post Windsock photos even for discussion. Try to click here for Rosebud's site.

If you have not done so already you may want to have a look at the "Great Albatros Model Cook-up on the WWI Modelers' pages:
http://wwi-cookup.com/albatros/index.html

There's some nice color art work for D.Va on this page:
http://wwi-cookup.com/albatros/dva/p...arson_dva.html

Also photos of many builds, including ones like this colorful MFJ example:
http://wwi-cookup.com/albatros/dva/build_dva_og.html

I hope this helps.

My Gallery
Hey, take a look at Mark Miller's website. He has a number of profiles based on his 3d model.

Don't underestimate the "black" fuselage idea. I know Mark has a nice image of a black diamond pattern. Essentially it is all black and there are areas left without paint showing the woodgrain as the diamond. It's a bird from Jasta 63.

It is definitly fits the definition of "cool."

Here is a link to the image:

Thumbs up

Hi Gents,
Does anyone have any info on the Leptien profile.
Jasta 63? Pilot? Details of emblem on fus side?
what exists to document this scheme? any pictures? descriptions?
I've done a search but I'm coming up empty handed.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Stropp D.Va

Romani,
I find the Stropp D.Va on display at the NASM to be rather unique. The fuselage is a pale natural wood color. The nose, engine cowl, and prop spinner is forest green. The wings are a blue/green lozenge pattern. And the empennage has a yellow field with green stripes, the mark of Jasta 46.

If you can get your hands on the book, Albatros D.Va, German Fighter of World War I, there are enough pictures depicting the paint scheme. There is even a detailed drawing of the lozenge design with measurements. I found my copy at Amazon.com but you can also try alibris.com a very good source for older used books.

Salute!
