Finished another Nieuport 17

Here is an old Testors Nieuport 17 that I had sitting around. I used the decals for Lufbery left over from Eduard's kit. Added a better pilot figure & engine, but otherwise stock from box, looks good from 3 feet away. Not a contest quality build, but will look good on my desk at work!

What did you use for the aluminium dope finish? I'm doing an Eduard Nieuport and I've used Tamiya Bare Metal from a can with some weathering and I think it looks OK..

Hi Dave,

The Nieuport looks very good! I really like your choice of markings too.

Regards,

Looks good! I have the same kit on my bench... doing it in the Imperial Russian 19th squadron colors. (love that skull-n-bones!)

Hi Dave,

Nice built and nice silver dope too.

I'm currently at work on the same aircraft, doing it as the mount of Carlos Verbessem, pilot of the Belgian Aéronautique Militaire. I use the old 1/72nd Revell kit. Lot of works to obtain a decent representation but it's really fun.

Best regards from Belgium

Philippe

Thanks for the comments. The aluminum dope was sprayed with Tamiya aluminum spray can, with the cowling done in Testors chrome silver. I kept the cowling off until last, and sprayed a coat of future mixed with Tamiya flat base to get a good semi gloss finish.
Like I said, a basic assembly almost straight out of the box. Took about a week to finish.
About 10 years ago (before the Eduard kit was released) I used this same kit to build Lufbery's Nieuport 21, used the Tom's Modelworks interior, Rosemont resin cowl, Aeroclub engine & guns, and scratchbuilt the clear center section & ribs, corrected lower wing shape and it came out nice, but took about 3 months to finish. Unfortunately I mixed too much white with my aluminum paint, so it looks light gray like a Pfalz, not aluminum like this new one. Sitting together on the shelf, from 3 feet away they look just as nice!
I decided to put the N.17 on ebay to pay for some new Eduard kits that I want to buy!
