Question Roden's F.1

I'm building Kurt Wolff's F.1 from Roden. What color was the stabilizer? The plans also mark his cowling as dark green. Correct? Thanks.

Greeetings John,

Kurt Wolff flew F.I 102/17 (it was also one of MVR's aircrafts). IIRC, this aircraft was entirely in streaky olive brown finish (on a light blue background) and the cowling was in plain olive brown finish also.

You'll find useful photos of this airplane on Rosebud's site.

You "ll also find a useful profile of this aircraft in Paul Leaman's Fokker triplanes book.

Hope this is help.

Best regards from Belgium

Philippe

Hello John,

I'm sorry but in my previous post, I made a big mistake.

Reading the Paul Leaman's book again, the F.I's profile shown is not F.I 102/17 but Voss's 103/17. My apologies if I induce you in error.

But as I said previously, finish on both aircraft are roughly the same : streaked olive brown on a base coat of pale blue. My better approximation of this blue is an equal part mix of RLM 65 and RLM 76. Cowling is plain olive brown and rudder plain white.

To make the streaking, usually I proceed in this way : I airbrush a decal sheet with mixed blue. After drying, I use a Prismacolor watercolour pencil to draw the streaking on the decal. Next, I airbrush a coat of varnish or liquid decal film on the drawing to seal it. After complete drying, you can cut each panel and put it on the model.

Hope this is help.

Best regards from Belgium

Philippe

Interesting idea, using the decal sheet. I hadn't thought of that. I usually use a brush with very little paint and try to actually duplicate the streaking.
BTW, I just received my order from Kingkit, in the UK. All old Esci kits with some funny mix-ups: the Albatross D.III kit has the color chart for the Alb. but the building plans for the Sopwith Camel. Also on the box cover for the "Red Baron Flying Circus", the Albatross is ID'd as a Fokker DVII and the Fokker DVII is ID'd as the Albatross D.III. I'm very happy to have these great old kits. Thanks for all the help!

Salut!

Hi John,

In a looooooong time ago (maybe twenty years), I've two of these boxes. I think that I've always the Albatros's building plan. If you want and if I find it, I can send you a copy.

Kind regards

Philippe

No thanks, Philippe--I think I can figure out how to build the machine. There aren't too many pieces.
