Avro 504k - Blue Max 1/48
When too much Australian Flying Corps is Barely Enough!
This is the Blue Max Avro done up as F2241
of No. 8 (Training) Squadron, Australian Flying Corps.
It is 99 percent done - I am just working on some acetate windscreens.
Anyone else working on this kit?
Carpo

Well done mate. I want one now. I know Snowy Mountains has them.... Love to convert it to a night fighter single seater.

Freaky
I had a read of this guys build - freaky! I used a prop from Roden's Strutter too - however I used the other prop in the kit.
Hope he is not too miffed when someone tells him his rudder stripes are in the wrong order.... (does that constitute rivet counting???)
I haven't put a white stripe around the number in the blue of the rudder on mine - the photo I have of this aircraft has a very light blue (so it seems) and it is hard to see if an outline was there (or necessary) I wonder how light this blue really was......

Love it!!
Go the AFC stuff I say!! Another super top class effort Carpo, your ability and attention to detail never ceases to amaze me. I have plans to build a 1/72 scale 504k in 8SQN markings eventually, I just have to find a good rigging material to use in 1/72. Do you have any shots of the interior? What was the kit like to build (I have never built a Blue Max kit)?
Superb!

Carpo; Very nicely done sir! How about some details on your build and what other things you did differently? People are forever interested in rigging systems.

Greetings Carpo,
Very nice and clean built. Your rigging is very well done also.
What do you use for rigging and how made you the double flying wires ?
Best regards from Belgium

Greetings Brad,
Actually, I work on a 504 K in Belgian markings in 1/72th. To make this, I have to use two old Airfix kits because the kit fuselage is wrong (too short and the cockpit openings are not in the right place. Lot of fun on this .
To rig my models, I use 0.065 mm and 0.08 mm nylon fishing lines colored with a black permanent felt pen.
Hope this is a little help.
Best regards from Belgium
Philippe

Very pretty Carpo. Yes, do you use a jig for the double wires? All I do is build and try to build more slowly these days. Lovely job, once again.

The build
Hi all -
Rigging is with monofilament nylon for static lines and flight controls are rigged in elastic - this stuff is about 2 thou thick. It would be good for 1/72 as a little stretching makes it thinner. (Brad - I'll bring some to work)
for the double wires, I just drill the holes in pairs - no jig. I have seen these double wires done with the little anti-chafing strips (eg on the SE5a) I would love to know what people use for these.
I don't have any interior shots - I tried them but everything came out black.
I am usually pretty basic with interiors - and just about all you can see is the seats and instrument panels. I wish I painted the inside of the fuselage at the firewall black - this can be seen if you look throught the fwd seat - I will have to do some careful work with a small paint brush to fix this up.
