Thanks for the welcome, Stephen! Have been "lurking" for a few years, finally took the plunge.

Hello Brad,

Really nice work. This seat is very well done. If the whole thing 'll be of the same level, it must be a great model. Keep up this good work.

Best regards from Belgium.

Hello all - thanks for the good comments and useful feedback Steven Lawson - thanks for the constructive comments! To address some of them:

The seat cushion and the combing around the back & arm rest should be black leather (although I am guessing red or milk choclate brown might be possible as well.) Adding putty to resemble the seat cushion will cover that gap without having to separate the back and the seat plate.

Thanks for the great info - do you have any references which show the different coloured combing? The only reason I ask is I may need references if I decide to put the model into a show when it is completed Also, the cushion idea is a good one, however as I am planning on building the kit straight OOB without any additions, I may leave this modification to the next time I build the kit.

Your wood work has a nice base colour to it. Have you ever tried the method of dry brushing? I like to add the impression of wood grain with dry brushing very small amount of lighter and or darker versions of the base coat. This is just my opinion but it makes wood items more interesting and livens up my work. Unless a wood surface has been shellac-ed you should be able to see some wood grain or veining.

The base colour is my own mix of acrylics made mainly from mixing straight red, yellow and brown. It's hard to see in the pictures, but the wood base colour has a grain dry brushed over the top using burnt sienna oil paints, it just tends to blend in in the pictures as I have gone for a subtle approachng with and hoping to improve upon. I've tried to add some more pics in direct sunlight that will hopefully highlight the grain.

They only thing I wish Eduard would have added to their Profipacks are bezels for the intsrument faces on the forward panel. Also a small trick I use is to keep much of the interior a flat or semi gloss colour in this scale. Full on gloss tends to push the viewer's attention away from the item it covers. The average viewer's eye will seek out what it can easily detail with and ignor what relects light.

Great input - the cockpit itself I have flat coated, however the gauges are a little too shiny I agree.

Tell us more about your build. What markings have you chosen and have you seen the online build here at the "Drome?"

No I have not seen the online build, can someone post a link to it? I would be very much interested in seeing what others have to say about this kit. As I am building OOB I have chosen to model F6002 of 201SQN flown by Capt R. Sykes. I have chosen this scheme because it has an interesting checkerboard scheme on the horizontal stabiliser as well as a metal cowling and varnished wood fwd fuselage - I am keen to try out a few new techniques in these areas If anyone has any pics of this machine they could point me to it would again be much appreciated!

Thanks again to all!

Lovely!

I'm now convinced of one thing: I need to stop building models and just look at the stuff you "AMS" guys do.

Hey Brad. Don't give up. I frequently look at the models that these guys build and then can't bring myself to look at my projects. They're not bad, but they sure lack the polish and flair of the projects seen on this thread. But, I'm a better builder for having joined The Aerodrome. And they are great guys to learn from. Keep building!!!!!
