Color Schemes for Roden's Early OAW

I'm looking for some alternate color schemes for Roden's early OAW D.VII (1/48 kit#420) Anyone know of some after market decals with early OAW's or perhaps a couple of interesting color profiles I could work from? I wouldn't mind something with OAW's green & mauve cowlings. Any help appreciated Thanks

Hello rfindley,

The "Fokker D.VII anthology" published by Albatros Publications Ltd contain a lot of useful references on the Fokker D.VII different types. Another useful reference is the two volumes on Fokker D.VII aces published by Osprey.

HTH

Best regards from Belgium.

Hi!

There is quite a few aftermarket Fokker D.VII sheets in 1/48. Check Hannants pages for example. Their search engine works well and will find them for you:

www.hannants.co.uk

I'm sure ther is atl east one or two early OAW built D.VII:s

Greetings; One of the early Eagle Strike decal sheets for Fokkers D.VII sets contained one with a brown fuselage (I think it was black) and a "witch on a broom" As a Jasta 30 machine it probably had the orange diamond simulated on the horizontal tail unit. Definately an early Alb. built Fok. D.VII

Ernst Udet flew an early buillt OAW Fokker D.VII which was covered in 4 colour lozenge with the Jasta 4 marking of black nose, struts, wheel covers with the fuselage outlined with a black and white border. Udet's LO appears on the fuselage side. The LO on the right side of the fuselage has an "O" which appears more rounded oblong shape while the left side "O" is more squared off. The left side "O" is similar to the "O" in LO on his later Fokker built red fuselaged D.VII.

His white leader chevron marking on the tail extends to the trailing edge of the elevators.

Carlos Meyer's early OAW built aircraft was finished in four colour lozenge with the usual Jasta 4 markings including the black/ white fuselage outline. His personal emblem was a drooling bulldog on a chain.

A third early OAW built D.VII was covered in four colour lozenge with the usual Jasta 4 markings with no black/white fuselage outline. It had a shield (?)
in a dark colour with a white (?) wavey line running from upper right to lower left.
It has been attributed to either Ltn. Egon Koepsch ( according to von Hipple album ) or Ltn. Heinz Gluszewski ( who was later photographed with a Fokker built D.VII with same emblem).

While the fin and rudder were most likely in an all white finish, OAW finished a number of early built D.VII aircraft with clear doped fin and rudder.

Don't forget Albatros decal on rudder.

These aircraft that Intrepid is listing are available from Americal/Gryphon on sheet #171, jasta 4 fokker 1/48 scale. This has many different Fokker D.VII's including all of Udet's aircraft, as well as some DR.1's, a halberstadt & a captured Sopwith Camel. Well worth the $12.50, on over 2 sheets 8 1/2 x 11 full of markings. Also a small booklet showing all of the aircraft included on the sheet.
