I may have missed this in your thread, but How exactly did you make the Master for the Vacum Mold of this georgeous Roland fuslage in this scale ?

Did you Vacuform the wings and tail surfaces as well? I understand the Vacum process itself but where and how did you make the master ?

Hello Mike

The plugs for the vacum forming was made out of balsa wood. The rough shape of the Roland was cut out of the balsa after marking the contour of the plane to the balsa wood using scale drawings. Then hours of sanding and measuring using different scale drawings, photos and the Eduard 1/48 Roland as refference. When the balsa fuselage was ready it was cutted making two halves. (see photos in my first post)
The wings and tail was made after an artiicle here:http://www.wwimodeler.com/esc/wings.html

Cheers

Well guys the Roland is almost finished, just some minor weathering left and adding some more groundwork around the plane. Also some rigging left. The painting and weathering has been a big challenge since I dont have much experience with planes. I must admit I'm happy this project soon is finished, it has been much work involved and I'm looking forwar to start on some new project, you know all those lovely kits, so little time!! The figures are now primed and ready for some paint.

Cheers

Per Olav

Wow! This has been stupendous watching the 'build-up' of the diorama. The project is really quite amazing in its detail, quality of work, and the story it tells! I can't wait for your next one!

"Der gestrandete Walfisch"

Thanks guys, here is another update on the figure painting progress. The Highlanders are now ready and I have just started on the Germans.
Hope to be finished with the whole project in a few weeks.

Cheers

Per Olav

a picture of the finished groundwork around the Roland. The Roland is slighter more weathered in real, it dont show very well on the picture.
