Thumbs up

Aluminum foil? Scouring pads? Fantastic! That's great news. I was dreading the waiting time for faux water treatments from the railroad scenic supply and all that. But what is 'Mod Podge" and is there an equivalent here in the US? I'll check the local box store and see if they have it, but that sounds great.

Thanks,
John Masters

Mod Podge

Hi John
Mod Podge is a US product so you should have no trouble finding it. Any shop that sells dolls house furniture, scrapbooking material, ribbons, craft paints etc will have it. The shop I went to appears to have a virtually exclusively female clientele and there were no plastic kits at all.

Check out Finescale Modeler November 2004 for an interesting article on a sea base for a 1/350 destroyer using Mod Podge and aluminium foil.

Cheers
James

Not sure, but not first

Official results won't be out for another week and a half, but one judge let slip to a friend of mine at the club that his Hansa-Brandenburg W29 was the winner in the 1/72 category that the Short was in. His plane lacked the tremendous flair and drama of the Short (tongue firmly in cheek) but was a faultless finish, which is after all what the judges want.

Keeps me humble so probably a good thing. Ah well.

Chin up, jamo...your efforts with that Short always get the Blue Ribbon in our eyes!

Hansa-Brandenburg Smansa-Handensmurg! Unless the W-29 was from scratch, I doubt that the other guy worked as hard as you did on your Aero-Club kit.

Came second

The Short came second, the Taube came third and my Hannover (pics posted a while back) was highly commended. Club pics weren't as good as the ones I posted here. I have a pic of the Hansa Brandenburg W29 that came first which I will post when I get home. Its very nice, but the pics probably don't show it at its best.

I have written a build article for Hyperscale which is in their pipeline for publishing, with the same pics I posted here.

I enjoyed the Short so much I have bought another one to build as the bomber version in PC10 with Lewis MG mount. Interesting that the moulds are showing some signs of wear since I bought the first one, particularly the radiator cube. Aeroclub now produce a torpedo for the Short (one was included in the latest kit) but it is very simple compared to the Flightpath version I used previously.

Happy Modelling!
