Sopwith Camel colours

I have just finished making two CIC Sopwith Camels in 1/300 scale.

Now I need to paint them.

Any suggestions as to paints (ie make and description or part number) for the green upper surface and buff (or whatever it is called) lower surface?

Steve.

In 1/300 scale? Sounds like they both could fit on a thumbnail. Did you rig them? Testors Model Master field drab for the top sides and radome tan for the undersides. But How are you going to paint throught the rigging? Does the control column move the flying surfaces? Does the prop and engine turn?

1/300th scale. WOW ! that is small. I tried 1/144th scale and gave up. My fingers were to fat and my eyes too bad. As for color, I used a dark olive upper and a cream lower.

Pictures! I want to see these things, and put something next to them for comparison. How small can you go!

SydWargamer- Where did you find these? I just picked up a 1/285 Fokker Dr.I and that was the smallest I have seen. Have some 1/144 and 1/200 models, too.

You could build yourself a whole air force with those, but need a magnifying glass to see the individual aircraft.

Taz

Stephen Lawson- You a volunteer to finish the 1/285 Dr.I for me? Will not take much paint.

Thumbs up

The 1/300 scale model aircraft are popular with wargamers, you can get everything that flew as the Heroics and Ros range, in particular, are enormous. Tried to find some pictures but only managed these.

Taz; Just so long as I don't have to fashion individual bullets for the Spandaus.

Ginger- Thanks. Those are gorgeous. Back in the 50s I made small balsa wood models in about that scale, so that is why the fascination. Tools were a single edge razor blade and a fingernail emery board. Still have most of the models, some even intact. Wingspans were about 1". Sopwith Snipe has a windscreen I cannot even see without a loupe. The good old days when I had young eyes.

Taz

Stephen- Mailing costs will be minimal and I think we can forego the bullets and movable control surfaces. Struts would be nice, and the model does not currently have any.

*Through a magnifying glass!
