Hereby some pic's of The IPMS Nationals at Nieuwegein Holland. Although there were maybe thousdans of kits to be seen, the number of ww1 models could almost be counted by one hand:

Paul Thomson's Gunbus entered the contest, he got a special recomandation in prop. aicraft 1/72.

In the same category this Halberstadt won bronze. The broken part was owing to an uncareful visitor.

Two Sopwith's on a deck.

A very nice SPAD from Airfix 1/72.

I believe we saw this one before on this site: a 1/48 DVIII by DML, Belgian version.

I don't know what fool made this one, but a lot of people thought he was very bad at placing the top wing.

(Sorry pic's are not top quality, but making these ain't my best thing)

Greetings, Nico

The modeling fool's airplane is the Airco DH-5

Great photos Nico,

However, the wings are not incorrectly placed. The airplane is the Airco DH-5.

Please refer to the following websites for more detailed information.
Shows an existing, flying DH-5 with beautiful modern photos.
and this website
Canadian aces web site with older photos.

In addition to providing the pilot a better unobstructed view, there is a definite aerodynamic principle involved in negative or backward stagger of the wings. By placing the bottom wing forward of the top wing, there is a marked decrease in the biplane drag effect. Also, during stalls at a high angle of attack in this staggered wing configuration, the center of pressure on the wing panels moves backward, instead of forward, providing a stabilization effect.

There were several other WWI airplanes that had the negative stagger of the wings. See also:

Kitboy thank you for posting those pics.

Was the DH5 yours?

Kitboy does know that the wings are back staggered.
