Decal Disaster on Auffarth's DVII!!!

I was finishing up Auffarth's DVII when disaster struck! I was using Micro Scale Decal sheet #72-146 and applying the perfect %$#@ comets on the sides and they completely blew apart in teeny weeny pieces. Even the Roden decals didn't fragment like this. Oh, woe is me! I have tried salvaging what I could, and handpainting the rest, but the result is much less than satisfactory. I'll be searching the web for replacements, but does anyone have a solution to my problem?

Help me Mr. Wizard!

Underdog!!!

John

Thumbs up

Thanks, Stephen. I sent a note off to Barry with the inquiry. I also used you as a reference. Maybe you'll get a free tube o' glue for sending them a new customer. I'd hate to lose this build. For a Revell it came out pretty good, with some nifty after-market add-ons. Plus, I'm already behind schedule on my "5 builds-by-mid-July" goal. I guess I'll shelve the Auffarth until I can finish it and push ahead with Niethammer. At least the AG decals won't explode...

yo, Jay

Future reference (geddit??):

Now on, anytime you finally get around to something and wonder if the 'cals are baked, guess what - they prolly are.

Heah whut y'do:
Coat that lovely artwork with a clear acryl varnish (such as Future or Kleer or Shazam Floor Wonder), let it cure, cut out the questionable cal and soak extra long in the dish until confident.

Place that Rare Thin on yer build and On Down The Road Wid Ya.

Had some extra thin roundels blow up on an M1.c and almost called 911.
This was the saver.

When in doubt, Create-A-Coating.

Make ya famous.

(There is a highly technical, hysterically-based, world wide, award winning answer to this same concern and it makes for fantastically lucid, spirited reading, but in the meantime, in between time, this will do.)

Such things are termed: Tricks Of The Trade

Amazing.

Or get some of that decal film and print your own on your inkjet printer...

Thanks all. I should have used the decal film but the last couple of transfers off of the same sheet worked fine, so I figured...

On a better note, I found a profile of Auffarth's ship and the printout is the same size as the decal, which is good news. I'm planning on making a stencil of the comet and then tracing the outline on a white decal sheet. The comet tails I will draw freehand in a similar fashion. I think it will work. I hope to have the pic up on line in a couple of days.

Once again, thanks gents.

masking

Try a mask made of low-tack frisket -- better than tape!
