Aceademy Camel 1/72 Decal bluessss

well i finished my Camel in 1/72 scale, quite easy build with that Zap-a-Gap. anywho I move to go to puttin on the decals and then the probs happen.

I tried the rudder decals first and then are too large for the rudder..I figure screw it Ill jsut paint the red, white, and blue stripe. Next I go to put on the big Roundels on the top wing. They long nice but looks are deceiving....THEY WOULD NOT STAY ON....!!!!!!!!! the ends would flare up constantly and there was nothing to keep them down cept of course maybe glueing which is out of the question!!! I took the roundels off and said the hell with it and I said to my Fiance Ill jsut try to find replacements..

I hope my Spad XIII's decals do not do the exact same as these did. Oh well hopes are high.

The camel build was quick for that glue is working wonders. came out nice

Jamie, don't let these little mishaps spoil your enjoyment; it's all part of the fun. Consider some decal solvent for your next project. Read the instructions carefully. What might look like the onset of disaster is often what is supposed to happen as the chemicals do their job.

Rudder decals are always too big. What I do is paint the red and blue sections, then add the white separately having cut it from the decal. Allow one side to set and then trim it with fine emery paper before adding the other side. Helps a lot with aircraft which carry serials or manufacturers logo on the central white stripe.

Nice to see a newbie build something which is "also available in brown". Enjoy!

Don't worry!
These deacls are usable, only some decal solution is needed (maybe the stronger one). Even the deacls which are already on the plane you can repair with the solution. Just apply it, and don't worry that the decal will wrinkle. It will soon straighten, when the solution evaporates.
Below is my Camel (Revell fuselage, Academy wing, deeply modified) with original Academy decals (letters are printed on ALPs printer).

Jamie - here is something else to try:
Future floor polish - the clear stuff - when that decal is flaring up like that, gently paint it with a fairly soupy coating of this Future. As it cures, it snuggles down the flappy parts. You have to be careful doing this or you may smear the finish as it cures, but it is a very good way to save a decal disaster.

Just gently brush the 'cal until it begins to stick to the stuff. Moisten it a bit and hold it there to help influence the 'cal to stick. Alternate that and lifting off, holding again. It's a "feel" thing, but once you have it, you'll be less worried about decals that misbehave - many do.

go man, go!

Soupy??? As in chicken broth or noodle? Either feels good to me.

It's a highly technical term that means: It worked
