7 Swabian decal tragedy...

Even after treating them with decal film, and handling with kid gloves, my 72nd scale 7 Swabian decals have gone 'poof' like pieces of sad confetti. This is a real dilemma. I may have to give up on the Swabians (tragic ) and try another marking. Any suggestions or solutions?

From the Factory on the hill,
John

For options try:
Jasta 65

Which set did you use? By coincidence I saw something in the local hobby shop the other day that might help us all. I found Testors decal spray in a can. Seriously its a pliable coating you spray over decals that you make on an inkjet printer. It protects the ink from chipping especially on compound curves. Typical Testors spray can with Red, white and blue label. Usually I use a gloss coat of clear lacquer but this may be a new option for all sets even older decals?

Thanks Stephen. I'll see if I can get a can of this stuff. If it's OK I'll photoshop your pics and print them onto clear decal? Nice build, BTW. I always thought that the nose was a more wine brown color, and not chocolate.
As a backup I I've mixed up a nifty mauve in case I decide to swith to Stark's bird. That would still be a beauty...

In retrospect the wheels should have been mauve and green like the OAW types from the factory but worn.

Sorry, I forgot. They were from PD, but I bought them from Bill Colby. If I had bought thwem from PD, they might be able to help me, but, alas.

I'm liking "Enemy Ace". How did that comic slip by my father's eagle eye, I wonder. It's probably the only comic book he would have allowed me to read!

Thanks again,
John

John,

Sorry to hear that. I got them from a hobby shop in Australia. I have a second set I can scan if you want to print your own. I was planning on building one myself. At what stage did they shatter - the initial decal or the more detailed one?

The stock # on the Testors decal spray label is 9200-Decal Bonder.
But if you turn that spray can over and read the stock # on the bottom it reads 1261A... the same as the Testors Gloss Cote lacquer overcoat!

So save those bucks for more important stuff...like beer!...and women!

Salute,
Steve

Hi John,
If you have already painted the D.VII, you can try to do it as U.10 on display at the Smithsonian. Color scheme is identical for jasta 65, you can try to make the numbers & letters from white decal film, or maybe find some model railroad letters that are close!
Good luck,
Dave
(who has several old issues of Enemy Ace in Star Spangled War stories from the 1960's, as well as the Baloon Buster)
