New to the Forum & a question about Eduards DVII
Hello all,
I'm new to the forum even though I have been a "lurker" for a while.I'm constantly amazed by the amount of Information you folks have and know. Don't know if I'll ever be able to contribute much, but I'll enjoy following along.
I am an aces buff and enjoy seeing pictures and profiles of their aircraft and then trying to model them. Some of the stuff I see on this website is truly amazing!
One question for you. Eduards new DVII calls for a BMW engine for Franz Buchners a/c. Every picture or profile that I have seen appears to show a Mercedes engine, as well as the guns not being mounted high enough for a BMW equiped plane. What do the experts say?
best wishes,
Scott

Greetings G. Scott Long; In reference to the pieces on Büchner from historians A. Imrie and (Aerodrome members)Greg van Wyngarden and Rick Duiven there is nothing that I have read that attributes the BMW to this airframe. See specifically Over the front Vol. 9 concerning the great articles by Rick Duiven on The War Diary of JG II. Greg Van Wyngarden's Fokker D.VII Aces Pt. I and A. Imrie's German Fighter Units May 1917 -1918.
Also welcome to the "Drome" as an active poster.

Thanks for the welcome, gentlemen. And thank you Mr. L for the information. I know you can't always believe what you see on a model decal sheet, but it also said in the Osprey book on JG II in the back section on captions for the profiles, that Buchners last bird was a BMW engined one.For the life of me, in every photo I have on this plane I just didn't think so. Come to think of it, I don't think I have ever seen a Jasta 13 DVII with a BMW engine.
Best wishes,
Scott

I am glad to help but in the Osprey publication "Aircraft of the Aces series Vol. #53" looking at The Fokker D.VII Aces of WWI pt. I p.93 profile #25 I see the reference to Büchner's last machine but no reference to the BMW? Are we talking about the same book? Just curious. Good luck.

No, I was actually talking about the Osprey Elite Aviation title " JG II Geschwader Bertold". Profile #40. In the back section where it describes the profile it states it has a BMW engine, but the two profiles including the one from the DVII aces book Osprey #53 look the same.
