Mr Geek44,

The best fishing line I have found for rigging comes from a European company going by the name Maxima Chameleon. I use various breaking strains depending on the scale needed. 1lb for 48th and 2lb test for 32nd.
Do a search on ebay or look for an Aussie outlet stocking it.

Good luck!
Bob

Thanks for the tip Bob. I'd be very interested to know what qualities (in terms of modelling advantages) the Maxima Chameleon has. Keep in mind I know nothing about this. I'm guessing this stuff is nylon (?) and one of the main plusses is consistent thickness. When I get pics of my SE5a up, you'll notice some inconsistency on that score.
Thanks again for the input, it's much appreciated. And please call me Nick.
Peace

Hello Nick,
The things I like best about Maxima are its brownish colour, suppleness and ease of use. The thicker lines can also be run through round nose pliers to create streamlined RAF wires.

Cheers,
Bob

Thanks again Bob. So, RAF wires were like fine ribbon or tape? ie. flat.
Peace.

Nick,

RAF wires had an aerodynamic shape, similar in cross-section to an aerofoil. Scale RAF wire is available in 1/32.

One question I have about rigging is how to "finish" the rigging. OK, so you drill part-way through the upper wing, and either insert Bob's eyelets or just glue the wire in there. After drilling all the way through the lower wing, and threading the monofilament through, you tension it by hanging a haemostat or similar from it. Now comes the tricky bit. How do we secure the line?

I gather it would be better to glue it on the underside of the lower wing (as it would be less visible there), and then slice the line off as close as possible, and even add a drop of paint to cover up the hole.

But the underside of the lower wing is, well, upside down. How does one glue here?

I was even thinking of assembling the rigging upside down, then running the line through the lower wing, and over some kind of upright, and hanging the stretched line and the weighted haemostat dangling down, enabling the line to be glued with no problems.

Can anyone understand that? If you can give me any tips on how to do this, I'd be grateful.

It's the touching up of the holed wings that bothers me. The way I visualise doing things, there's going to be some weathering that will also need touching up...might need to rethink it.
Thanks for the diagram Bob.
Peace.

Bob,

As always, very informative, very helpful, and great illustrations. Thanks a lot mate. (There, I used it Nick. can I belong to the "mate" club too? Oh. I'm an Aussie born and bred...guess I always WAS a member [didn't even have to go so far as saying "Crikey! Stone the flamin' crows! Youse shielas are grouse!").

Sorry for that.

Anyway Bob, I appreciate your assistance.
