Fokkers built for two

What are the differences between the Fokker D.VII and the C.1? Obviously, the extra seat and cockpit. The fuselage is only a few inches longer, and the wingspan is a meter and a half wider (both top and bottom wings?) but where was this added? Could a D.VII be converted into a C.1? Some Russian C.1s also had a siphon aerodynamic fuel tanks added to the gear...

I made one in 1/72 back when Pontious was a pilot. The wings were stretched by cutting up two kits and adding an extra wing bay either side, at the root for the lower wing and immediately outboard of the "centre section" (okay. I know it isn't really) on the upper. I think the fuselage is rather more than a few inches longer, more like a foot and a half.

In those days the bits left over went into a DVI, long since kitted of course, so the method was not nearly so wastful as might be thought.

Yeah. From published dimensions, I get .23 meter longer for the C.1, which translates into sooo---oooo--oooo long in inches.

OK, I used an online converter. .23 meters equals 0.7545931808333334 feet. A hair over nine inches. That is, if the C.1 dimensions I had were correct.

That is a surprize. Obviously my memory is in error, which is rather less of a surprize.

Coincidentally I came across a couple of pics of Soviet CIs on the web recently. I hadn't seen them before and it got me thinking, but don't hold your breath. My CI did look nice in Dutch markings though. Back then I could still hand paint serials.

Yeah, nine inches doesn't seem like much. I would have thought more. The dimensions I've got for the D.VII is 7 meters, for the C.1 it's 7.23 meters.

I slightly remember reading that some D.VIIs were converted to dual seaters by removing the guns, shift the instrument panel, etc, but that doesn't take into account the drastic change in CG.

All of the these new D.VII kits, and no C.1s. A lot of parts could be recycled. No MAG D.VIIs either.

To make a C.I use the old Aurora/Revell/ Monogram Fokker D.VII. The wings are the right size with the extra rib bays already in place.

Yee-haw! May have some bagged away.
The C.1 was not an inconsiderable aeroplane. Several hundred were built and soldiered on long after the D.VIIs retired.

Are there any decent scale drawings of the C.1?
