normal color for the belts? leather lt. tan or lt. grey

Khaki or tan in colour as most where made from a thick woven canvas type material.

Also depends which country, and which type of plane even, since many were the fabric with leather reinforcements especially where the buckles meet, and some earlier ones were all leather. I Got the Eduard German belts and there are about 6 different styles. Also the Eduard pre-painted British RFC belts are painted in both the khaki color (may be too yellow for some tastes) and brown leather with silver metal for all buckles. I think a thin black wash makes these look much more realistic.
