EOW Diorama.
In the recent past, I had watched another fine modeler decide that he was going to build his stack of DML / Dragon 1/48 Fokker D.VII kits. I had quite a number myself and thought it might be a fun project to build a late war staffel. This specifically brought me back to one of my favorite subjects - aircraft dioramas. Yet being slightly... ok, moderately afflicted with AMS, I decided to do real aircraft and therefore use up some of the aftermarket decals that I have collected over the years. This mean that I had to do different aircraft from different units. Then my AMS kicked in. For several days the query puzzled my thinking.
"When would aircraft from different units be seen together?"
Then it came to me. You would see them at aircraft turn in depots at the war's end.
Here is where is all began. http://theaerodrome.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21804
If you skip to page 4 and scroll to the bottom you will see some of the completed fuselages I am going to use. Though I am reasonably sure it won't take as long to build or be as big as my Staaken or the Forgotten Nest dioramas.

Acute Modelers Syndrome I think it was... I can't remember exactly. But I think it was an abbreviation given to a condition Larry Leadhead suffers from by his wife.
It was also Acute Mountain Sickness, Atypical measles syndrome, Aging Male Syndrome, Ablepharon Macrostomia Syndrome, and a form of parkinson from what I've heard

Otherwise also known as Anal Modellers Syndrome. In relation to the fallacy that one can make one's models accurate to a very high degree. Also refers to the need of the advanced modeller to obsessively research tiny details of the model under construction, and then if accurate detailed information is obtained, to then construct lots of tiny tiny details that no-one can possibly see* (in the depths of the hidden engine area for example), and that are often irrelevant to the average member of the public viewing the model. Try a search here for the "Great Aunt Dymphna Test" (now there's someone we haven't heard from in a while...). Also refers to the need of some modellers, often found in clubs and competitions, to be overbearingly right in discussions about particular models or modelling subjects and to play the 'expert' wherever possible.
* Also sometimes referred to as "modelling for god"
Cheers
Neil

Audible Machine Sounds.
engine noises.
All these acheivers may bull**** you but if you're not making engine noises while you build, there is NO WAY it's going to come out right.

There is another variant of AMS which I suffer from: Amateur Modeller's Syndrome. This horrible disease causes a modeller to forgo any detailing whatsoever and to toss any and all historical accuracy to the wind. If the final result somehow resembles an aircraft, the sufferer is satisfied. I've applied to the Lawson-Abbott Institute for help but they won't process my application until I cease building "what-ifs".

Capt. K- B; Let me assure you that your application has been processed and is in the works. I feel confident that it will pass with flying colours. You simply have to complete one kit with as much detail as possible. What-ifs are welcome indeed. Photos of inprogress builds are helpful but remember the exact colour coding must be supported by at least three independent sources from our sources lists.
Oh and by the by...Ignore the sourgrapes hanging about the entrance...they are colourful but not good for human consumpution unless you bake them into a pie. The resident longeared onion gnaws on them from time to time. Just don't walk behind him and you will keep your shoes clean.
Kitboy; AMS = Advanced Modelers Syndrome. Nothing to be afraid of because in a contest when you are right, you are right. Everything else may not win an award but you gets your goodie bag anyway.

I always though Neil's version was the correct one.

I think Barker's right.
There not a thing in the world wrong with all the itsy bits that no one will ever see, as long as you're having fun doing it.
And making the right noises.
