Psychedelic markings on old Hannover Kit...

I recently received an old MPC hannover CL111a from an Ebay purchase. I know that MPC = Airfix in the mold category, but the extremely cooked decals were (are?) a curiosity...

1. They are so old they have come off of the paper backing and are extremely fragile, to say the least. Is there any way to salvage any of the decals?

2. There are markings for what looks like 4 'designs'
A. An Ace of Spades with a skull and crossbones in the middle
B. A quarter 'Man in the Moon" smoking a pipe
C. A cartoonish looking flower.
D. A dragon profile snorting fire

Are any of these logos valid for any of the units, squadrons, pilots, etc...?

Needless to say, the crosses are printed off center, so they're useless. The others might be fun to have, if they are the real thing, and if I can salvage them.

Chew on that, fellas, while you masticate your turkey...

From the Factory on the hill,
John

Happy Thanksgiving!

Decals

Micro makes a decal film solution. Also, you could color-Xerox them onto decal paper.

Hello, I just got on eBay that same kit, I got it cheap because the decals suffered water damage. I am too intrigued by these decals, mine are beyong salvaging, but if you can take a good picture or a scan, please do and share, and we can print them out. I can scan the ones from my sheet that are still intact, if that helps.

Maybe they are completely bogus, but even if that's the case, they would still make a colorful model!

That's funny. Is it "buy every Hannover you can see" time? I also bought one by internet a week ago. In my case an Airfix one. First issue bagged version. So no psychedelic decals in this one. But I am curious what they look like.

Greetings, Nico

Here you go folks...

These are completely off of the paper, but I would love to salvage the Ace of Spades, the Dragons and the Man on the Moon. I'll try Micro goop, but I don't think they'd survive being flattened--brittle is a word I'd use, and thin...

From the Factory on the hill,
John

Greetings all;

Psychedelic huh? I swear I opened this thread and could hear citar music and smelled cinnamon incense. The MPC decals date back as far as 1966-7. I'll have to check my records later but they were charactatures and meant for use on "barnstorming / air racing schemes." None are actual WWI schemes. The kit usually comes with a standard set of Airfix serials and national markings on the same sheet. Other Airfix WWI kits were treated similarly.

The images were printed on a single decal film so you had to cut them out individually. The only safe way that I have found for saiving thes decals is to photograph the sheet (if possible under glass and watch out for glare.) Then take it and a sheet of laser safe decal film to a Kinkos copy shop. When you show the decal film company documentation to the Kinkos employee proving that the film is laser safe all you have to do is explain to them exactly what size you want the finished images to be. Take one specifically and explain its size and the others will turn out in proportion. You will probably get about 4-6 complete images of the whole sheet on your laser safe sheet. Somebody turn that Steppenwolf song up...thats it Born to be Wild! Peace and Love Y'all. Model On!
