Any kits of the BE12b out there?

G'day guys,

I am pondering what to do for my next project - I recently picked up the 1/48 Aeroclub BE12 as well as the datafile on the BE12 / BE12a / BE12b. What has perked my interest up as an interesting subject to model is the BE12b.

Whilst the BE12 was a single seat derivative of the BE2, the BE12b was a derivative of the BE12 but fitted with a Hispano Suiza engine (this made me think that the aircraft looked somewhat like the backyard offspring created from the forbidden love of a BE12 and an SE5a ).

Having that thought gave me an idea - I could possibly model a BE12b by kitbashing the Aeroclub BE12 with a Roden SE5a to form the basis of a BE12b. This would be a bit of a challenge and would involve a good degree of work (as Aeroclub kits tend to be a bit of work anyways).

So here's my question, before I go nuts with a hacksaw on these two kits, is there any manufacturer that produces a BE12b in 1/48? I have seen references to Aeroclub having produced one but I can't seem to find one available anywhere, including on the Aeroclub web site.

Thanks in advance,

BC

Not in 48th mate. Only in resin in 72nd by HR. Start sawing.

BEs

Roden is supposedly got one in 1/48 in the works. Are you holding your breath? It's still in the "pencil drawing" stage whilst the DH-4 is in the "watercolor" stage.

Before you do anything rash, the Aeroclub BE12a has an E wing set, as it should, for a BE12b you need a C wing set. Better to start with the Aeroclub BE2c. There was also a vacform BE12b in 1/72 IIRC.

BE fever

I was going to build the armor-plated BE2 with my Falcon model, but alas the plastic shattered like a cheap Christmas bauble.

Ross - thanks, looks like I'd better sharpen the hacksaw....

PeterL - I have the BE12 kit and not the BE12a, so the wing set I have should be correct for the BE12b.

I confess I am not familiar with the kit. To tell the truth I thought the 12a was the only one they did. Hmm! You've got me going now. Keep us posted Brad
