Hello again everyone,

Well it's been a long time between drinks with this project, due in no small part to work taking me overseas and away from my modeling bench for the best part of three and a half months.... now that I have been home for about two weeks I have made a bit more progress (despite the fact that while I have been away Roden has released a kit of this beast typical. But after some thought I figured I've put too much effort into the project to throw it aside now....).

The wings are now fairly well done, and it was a bit of work... The trailing edges were thick as planks and the surface detail was soft, so the whole surface needed to be sanded back. I also found that the plastic "flaked" as I sanded in some areas - very odd - and due to this in the process of removing the ailerons I took hunks of plastic from the surrounding surface - frustrating. Aeroclub supply both upper and lower wings in three pieces which need to be joined at the correct anges - more fun again. The ribs were represented using the same technique as on the tailplane and this process in itself took about 3 hours....

Top wing before priming (you can see the many scars from the repairs to the flaked plastic, especially around the aileron areas):

Bottom wing also before priming:

Here the model is dry fitted after priming the wings... at last she is starting to look a bit like an aircraft....

Next is onto more details - undercarriage and exhausts mainly. Then perhaps I can finally get some paint onto the darn thing!

Excellent work, Brad. I think you'll outbuild Roden on this one...

Keep at it mate. Don't let Rodens kit put you off. This is a great build and can't wait to see it in it's final colours.

G'day Ross - nope, she's not finished yet, she's one of the triad I have on the bench at the moment (along with the Albatros DV and Bristol F2b). I'm playing around with the exhaust pipes and undercarriage at the moment, as well as some of the minor details.

The main thing holding me up on putting paint on her is chosing the marking scheme, which at the moment seems to be based purely at the serials I can piece together (right now, I can't really do any, so I am trawling over websites and hobby shops trying to find the right white outlined serials... ). This will then dictate some of the other details (wing fuel tanks, flares etc) before I can paint. I tried ordering a British serial set through Hannants, but they were out of stock. I wouldn't mind doing one of the machines out of the Roden boxing but I am not spending 40 bucks on a kit for two decals.... Hence, very little progress recently and the starting of other projects.... don't worry, I've put that much effort in that I will finish the darn thing eventually, even if it is to save me from buying the Roden kit!

Anyone know where I can get hold of some serial sheets??

I bought mine directly from them. Aeroclub should also stock them too.
