BATTLEAXE Fokker DVIII Build

Gentleman I am by no means on an expert model build level. I am learning and try my best. I am most likely in need of therpy after staring at my Wall of Kits attempting to choose a "Quick Build" to wet my whislte on and break in my new Hobby Room only to my Horror to have picked the Battle Axe DVIII.

It seemed simple enough only ONE Parts sprue, a few Resin and one PE Fret.

I primed the Wing Wood colored as a base for the Brown/Green and Violet/Blue Camo Scheme as Described by Dan-Sans Abott. The Burnt Sienna on the Rudder and Elevator was a Botched attempt at shading the ribs prior to overcoating. ALso the entire sprue is Primed with enamel Flat Light Grey. The Original Parts are a White Material? Plastic?
Here are the Resin Engine, MG and PE that came with it.

I primed the interior of the fuselage with Wood Color to paint the triangular Side Panels which I outlined with the Panel frames from the Eduard PE Fret to Detail out the Roden Dr.I & DVI.

Then I Scraped the Original Interior Fuselage Frames shown below on the cutting board which were asymetricly not round and Scratched new ones (Laying Inside the Fuselage Halfs) with round Styrene Stock using the Orignals as a template.

Then I took the Original Lozenge Decal Shown as applied to the Rear Cockpit Bulk Head which like the DVII and Dr.I is meant to be fabric. I color copied them and then Faded them on the computer and re-printed them on Bare Metal Foil Decal Paper for Ink Jet printers and Whoooolha INTERIOR LOZENGE Fabric Decals. The Other two crude parts shown next to the rear bulkhead are the Gas tank and Ammo Can (Ha! Right?)

I got stuck on the Interior Fuselage Cockpit framimg. I have the whole Eduard pre-colored fret of Intruments etc to fit on it yet. The Difficulty was making, fitting, and glueing in cross members with the Cockpit Floor Boards and Gas tank. I had some serious triming to the sides of the gas tank to fit in between the framing in the right place. I re-built the seat from the Toms Model Works Fret for the Dr.I. I used the Seat back and using the Original seat as a template made a new seat bottom. I covered it with lozenge decal a little prematurely. I may redo that and I have yet to paint the cushion leather. THis is where I am STUCK and it gathers a bit of dust while I attend to matters in real life. I have to re-build the Control Stick, rudder bars, and the complicated cable and push-rod system that hold them all together so they will fit in the right place and thread them with "COntrol Cables" I will mostly likely fabricate out of a strand of electric wire that I unbraided to its individual strands?

So it was on with the wing and engine and Cowling. The wing went togther well. It had a badd bubble/intentation in the molding at least near 3/8's of an inch large which I filled with "Porc-A-Filler" as well as the Aileron Leading edges which din't quite match up exactly. But the "Porc-A-Filler" was AMAZING ! I will never use another type of "filler/putty" again ! I sanded it smothe and repainted it and Penciled in the Demarkations between the Streaked Top Colors that will go over the "Plywood" Covered wing Brown/Green on the Top and Violet/Blue Streaked like the Dr.I Camo. I also gave it a Clear Coat of Future Acrylic in prep for the Streaking.

I had my choice of AM engines. I had a TOms Model Works White Metal Rotory side by side the Kit Resin Engine which required glueing on three of the Cylinder heads. Again I planned on used hte same wire described above for the Ignition Wires. I gave it a base coat of Platunim Silver and Side by side they look all most the same so I picked the Kits resin engine. Next I had to Grind/File/Dremel Out the back side of the Cowl to thin the material around the bottom edges of the face and Cooling Holes. The Original Part was so thick that "in Scale" the Cowling might have looked as if it came off of or was made with the thick steel from an Armored Safe. I meant to get going on the PE MG from Copper State but alas Here I am back to work at the Job and weeks from getting back to it to work on the interior cockpit problems again.

Mg,
It seems that your images are not showing.

Jim

Seems I was wrong! The first has shown up. I guess I'll have to give things a little more time.

The nice thing is that you don't need to be an "expert" to post what you know. Thanks for the build info. Model On!
