Roden Dr.I 1/72 build problems

Has anyone here built Roden's Dr.I in 1/72?

I have problems in getting the upper decking to fit. How should this be solved? Widening the fuselage or sanding down the sides of the upper decking?

Are there any other serious issues that I have to know (it's a relaxing OOB build).

I am new to this forum, so if there are other places to get this info, where do I start?

/Magnus

There's a pretty good build-up here:

http://www.geocities.com/cewentzel/Fokker.html

It doesn't mention the problem you're having, but might answer your second question about other things to look for.

I personally would sand the upper decking to fit.

Here's another really great article that mentions the fit problem you're experiencing, and how the author fixed it:

Roden Dr I

Magnus,
I had so much trouble with the cabane struts that I trashed the model. They simply did not fit. I'll be more careful in the future.
HTH,
Terry

Thanks for the heads up!

This we was rainy as hell and I spent most of it indoors getting some building done.

I managed to solve the upper decking issue by sanding the two parts flat and then gluing on the upper deck with (a lot) of Revell contacta glue. After this I waited for 12 hrs or so before sanding down the excess plastic on the sides. The problem is that this means that the upper decking which goes with the middle wings turned out to be to wide too. This was therfore subsequently sanded down as well. The result, after painting, is so so.

I haven't started on fixing the top wings yet, but they are coming on tonight if everything goes according to plan. I'll take it easy with the cabane struts. Thanks Terry!

Other projects advancing this we were my RPM Ford T model ambulance (recommended!) and Roden Se5a and Fokker D.VIIF. Lots left, though.
