The theme has been explored by artist and Drome member James Dietz. They were titled "Waiting for the Tender" and "Here's mud in your eye." Both used the nosed over Camel to depict some unique scenes. In an article written for a modern aviation magazine Mr. Dietz describes the bits of information that went into the making of both paintings. I provide them in low resolution jpeg imaging below because they went with the article and one is already in the gallery here. If required by the artist I wll remove them.

Stephen- I was thinking about building a 1/32 scale ww1 a/c, and that's why in my first few posts, I asked about a good kit to start with. I then found out about the Hobbycraft kit, and then an idea struck me- crash- different then the plane shown on its wheels as most models are displayed. I then saw the paintings- fantastic stuff by the way- I have his ww2 book too- Dietz is really an inspirational artist.

Per Olav- your dio is coming along very very well- awesome work!

mwellhouser. Really like the dio, excellent work, sir. The pilot makes the scene.

James Dietz, I can touch "Duel at Odds" as I type this. I second what mwellhouser says. Your Voss painting was my first piece of WWI artwork and I now have numerous pieces hanging in my home, several of them yours. I don't know the titles but the two pieces depicting F2B crews leaving and returning from patrol (I believe they were featured on C&C covers) portray WWI air combat with an intensity that chills the blood. I mean that in a nice way! Thank you and all the fine artists of WWI aviation art for your work.
