Sopwith Triplane - Black Flight

Rigging is .005 stainless wire, control cables are EZ-Line. Underside is "pre-shaded" to show ribs but it doesn't show up very well in the pics. "Black Prince" is done with MS Paint in my computer. I am very happy with how the "wood" came out.

Great build. What printer did you use to print out the lettering?

I have to disagree, Stephen! I think the model has very nice 'scale gloss' finish. Since the model is not weathered otherwise, the glossy varnish should not look like it have been worn out either, should it?

For my tastes the PC10 camo is maybe a bit too green. I actually prefer to believe those who say the Tripehounds were painted with PC12, milk chocolate brown.

It's a great build Wildcat!! I know this kit ain't the easiest one! Did you do the Black Prince text with your home printer? How did you manage to do that?

I scanned in the tailplane before gluing it on. I then opened the scanned tail in MS Paint. Using the text tool I did the "Black Prince" and the serial #. Printed out on white decal sheet. The color match to the paint was almost perfect but for some reason the future and the semi-gloss coat darkened the olive green.

Very nicely done. Mention has been made of the green shade on the model. What I like most is that in the first picture the model looks green, in the second it has a strong brown look!

Sopwith Drawing No.1894, "Details of Fuselage Covering" for Clerget Triplane states the following:

Fabric to receive 5 coats of "Cellope" dope and two coats of PC12 (Pigment), (known as "Cellon" Scheme A).

So, I find it hard to believe that Sopwith would ignore their own finishing instructions. It should be a nice reddish brown, as Familyman says "milk chocolate brown". They certainly started off shiney and then weathered in use.

You are also missing the large white letter "A" behind the cockade and the black fin.

Having said my piece, congratulations on the build, I have had one for three years now and daren't start it.
