Nieuport Model Question

On the rudder of a Nieuport the decals are red white and blue. Although I haven’t reached that point in the build just yet, it seems to me that even using the decals for the rudder will result in a less than nice finish because of the two sides meeting up at the top. I was thinking of painting the colors on and then applying the numbers seperatly. What do you think of this idea? And what type of tape could be used to mask over one color already painted (to achieve a hard paint line) so it wont peel the paint up when removed? Thanks for your help!

Why don't simply retouch the edges of the rudder with the appropiate paints? Trim the excess decal film with a sharp blade, and then paint the edge of the rudder.

Too much work, that's why there are rudder decals, because painting straight lines is hard.

You have to use masking tape sold at models stores.. in a pinch you can use standard painter tape.. but both are so sticky that chances are you will rip up the paint or the decal when separating. Been there done that

My suggestion is to spray varnish on the painted area before applying tape, then the paint won't peel off

Low tack surgical tape works perfect, it's a milky white matte tape.

Paint the red and blue portions then add the central white stripe.
