Promoting the Hobby

There is an advantage to introducing World War I aircraft to the general public. A greater number of modelers will result in a larger selection of kits, after market decals, and books as demand increases. Most libraries have glass display cases available for temporary exhibitions. These can be filled with finished models, kit boxes, magazines, datafiles, and books. I was planning to do this myself. Unfortunately, all fifteen public libraries in Jackson county Oregon, USA are closing in two days due to lack of funds.

Truley a sad state of affairs, wonder how much they have spent on "nanny state" policies, like cigarettes restrictions or the latest fad of "man-made" global warming.

Clarification

It is only a local funding issue. The other libraries in the state of Oregon are remaining open.

Closing Libraries??!!! Eeh, Gad!!

Ben Franklin would be doing an Immelmann in his grave!! Next to my stash of Americal/Gryphon, my Library Card is my most cherished posession!!!

Actually, getting librarians to work with you isn't as easy as one might think. I negotiated (6 months beforehand) to make my Monogram Wright Flyer a centerpiece for a model/book display back in Dec 2003. With everything set, she called me in November to tell me I'd been bumped by a local artisan's display of Christmas Tree ornaments!

On the other hand, I seem to notice that a build of the Dr.I (any scale, any markings) still seems to attract a lot of viewers at modelshows, despite all the "blowtorches" and "MesserSpitStangWulfs" on display.
Go figure. . .
