Voss' paint scheme always did catch my eye. Something so intriguing about it... can't put my finger on it... but... must.... GAWK AT... IT...

Good to hear the Voss figure is on its way Stephen, we may be able to hook up a bit of a photo opportunity
Progress was good over the weekend, I got the top wing on and the rigging done - the top wing posed no problems going on, I went with attaching the interplane struts first, followed by the cabane struts, which have a little more flexibility with their location points. The wing join was quite fragile until all of the struts were glued on and reinforced with superglue. Pinning the joins may be better, but I decided against it as the struts are so thin. I am still a little scared about the top wing joint, the wing is heavy in this scale and the struts are so thin, I am worried about a strut busting! I think I will start looking for a source for airfoil shaped brass for struts...
I also managed to paint the prop as well (which also had some pretty mean sink holes in it that needed filling)... I tried the technique of masking and spraying the laminations, then going over the top with a wood grain - I think it turned out ok and is definatley a technique worth exploring. Let me know what you all think?

Looks really good. Seems that you should have it done fairly soon.

Greetings Brad. You definately have something going there, but try hooking the blade tip laminations over the leading edge of the blade instead of going straight out to the tips.

Stephen,
I've done the same as Brad for my Prop. No hooking. I know that is the case with a laminated prop, but for some reason I find it a nightmare to replicate. I think I will stay with what I got for now, that is until I learn a new Jedi Mind trick that will give me the powers required
I spent 3 hours carving a prop the other day... Needless to say it was 3 hours lost. I wasn't happy with the outcome. I will have another go when I get the right honing bits for my dremel. Judging the pitch was not as easy as I thought it would be. Plus, getting those sexy laminations to look right was nigh on impossible...Ah well! Back to the carving board...
Bye for now.

Hi Mr Buckles,
I have carved three props successfuly so far (I am happy with the result). All out of solid Cedar. I find it very simple with a sharp number 11 blade... and then clean up with wet and dry.
A brief outline:
Start with a chunk of timber, flat on both sides and parralell. Make it the finished thickness of the prop.
Trace the plan of the prop onto one face. And carve this out.
Then, rough out the back face of each blade. The back face is as good as flat in 1/48 or 1/32 (IMHO).... and you can adjust the pitch of the back face later with sanding.
I find it simple matter to the rough out the front face of each blade and then clean up again with sanding.
Before I die, I will manage it with a four blader. I have tried and failed a few times on a four blader...
As always Brad, your work is impeccable (and appologies for hijacking your thread).
Cheers,
Hugh

Oh boy guys, I don’t know who to thank 1st! Stephen, I have Voss safe & sound here now and will drop him by to Brads hopefully over the weekend.
I am itching to see him with the Albatros Brad is building.
As some of you may be aware the annual October Model show is on later this month and I am hoping that Brad will enter, and that we may be able to have Stephens Voss standing next to it … we will have to see what happens there.
Anyhow as Brad mentioned, we will be taking some more photo’s once the beautiful Albatros is finished to show you all.
Once again a big thanks to you both, it never ceases to amaze me that through a forum like this you can meet or at least get to know some great people!!
Regards to all
Paul

Well the rest of the build has progressed smoothly and quickly.
The rigging was done using Ezline elastic attached to Bob's Buckles 1/32 scale buckles - these are very finely done and were kindly donated by Bob at no charge - as always, I can highly recommend Bob's products!
Once the top wing and undercarriage was on and rigged, all that was left to do construction wise was to add the exhausts and radiator pipes. The kit exhaust has a number of large sink marks that require filling. I also hollowed out the end of the exhaust. The radiator pipes were scratch built from solder as the kit parts would not fit (as they are designed for the centrally mounted radiator of the kit). A final dash of weathering, a clear coat, and the addition of the windscreen, and she was done!
So, here are some pics of the finished product:
