New Lozenge decals
Greetings all;
I have in hand four new sets of lozenge decals that will be available soon for sale. Though I helped consult on these, I have no financial interest in them. In 1/48 scale they are;
Fünffarbiger Flugzeugstoff (5 colour) upper surface MD-48001
Fünffarbiger Flugzeugstoff (5 colour) lower surface MD-48002
Vierfarbiger Flugzeugstoff (4 colour) upper surface MD-48004
Vierfarbiger Flugzeugstoff (4 colour) lower surface MD-48005
In my opinion these are very good efforts. I would like to see one or two colours adjusted in the next run. But over all these are nearer to the originals than anything available at this time. There are plans to do lozenge rib tapes but the manufacturing process demands spot on register so these are not ready yet. When allowed to I will offer up the manufacturer's name and address.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Stephen

Stephen, This is excellent news considering the void of good lozenge decals left by the demise of Eagle Strike and AG! Looking forward to the release,

Manufacturer is lucky to have Stephen's assistance
but for those of us who're holding out for 1/32 Loz, here's hoping Spada will come through in 2008!

Yep, with all these 1/32 kits coming about, especially the various Fokker E.Vs, it'll be nice to see some decent big scale lozenge. Every kit's lozenge isn't usable....

You wouldn't think it, but often the biggest problem is the dyes / colours that printers have available or can acquire.

Yeah, lozenge decals seem to be the biggest problem for manufacturers. I wonder sometimes how a mftr will print a test copy and let some of the circus shades go out the door.

Greetings Chris;
The best example of this is when Superscale really screwed up Dan San Abbott's 5 colour camouflage with their efforts of doing colors "near to the requirements" that he set up. They figured avaerage modelers (fifteen -sixteen years ago) wouldn't be that picky.

Spada IS working on the Third Generation Pre-Production Test Prints.
Yes they Have already been thru 3 prints doing exactly what you are saying, comparing and throwing out what is not working. What IS working is the Laser Printed "Fabric" Weave Pattern created with the Ink Pixels which IS working GREAT to create an authentic Printed Fabric looking "Decal".
What is Proving the Albatros of the entire project IS Color matching as described. The Actual Color chips are available from Reference Sources like DSA. We obtianed ours from him as well.
Even as crudely Printed (Some Older Computer Printers use a Black Ink dot matrix to Shade colors) as our Sample Chips were received thay still provide a reasonable shade to work with.
However the Dammimng Issue which is halting production has been Color Matching. It sounds Simple but in todays electronic maze of equipment it is like matching hand held radios. One color written and understood by the computer in One Computer LAngauge Equates to a slightly different shade when interepeted by another electronic printer and put to paper. Not EVEN to mention the contrast and gamma settings of the Monitor you are looking at them with !! Sometimes I envy Williams Sherman Color matching Computers!
It's good always a good thing when there is intrest and demand. Even with several (more than one) manufactuers getting involved it is a good thing given how extremely critical the market is on these. To date while there had been some examples more accepted than others there was not one which was without detraction of some kind.

Printed colors (CMYK) are always matched with other (CMYK) printed colors. You never try to replicate a color (CMYK) by looking at a monitor (RGB).
I guess you meant "Sherwin-Williams"??????
Unbelievable.
