Maquette's 1/72 Ilya Muromets- my second biplane

Biplanes and pre-WWII aviation is something that I'm beginning to delve into. I had built a biplane before, but I needed more practice with rigging. I'm never one for moderation, so here it is- my second biplane ever, Maquette's Ilya Muromets in 1/72.

Not much to say- there are a lot of good things, some bad things (some nasty blobs of superglue, I dropped it a few times, etc.), but overall I'm happy with the result.

Safe to say I'll be building a few more biplanes in the future!

(BTW, I know the rivet-(stitch?) counters will find problems with my depiction of an Ilya Muromets. I never intended to represent a real aircraft, but more like a general representative of the type. I know that I like it.)

Comments and criticisms welcome! (Criticisms more than straight comments- I'm still new at this, of course.)

Thanks.

Nice Job! Very Crisp.

Welcome aboard Lucien,

It looks big in any scale. I like it, it looks like a lot of work, but well worth it. Keep up the good work, I look forward to more of your projects.

Best Regards, FOKKERJ

Your second biplane? Holy Moses! I've been building ww1 planes for almost 8 years and still don't have the guts to dig up my ICM kit of Ilya to actually build it!

"Stitch counters" (that's a good one Lucien ) actually do have a lot to say about the Maquette Ilya, but your build shows very clearly, that good assembling, painting and rigging are after all much more important than accuracy. It looks like an Ilya to me!

You sure had some practice with rigging with this one and seems like you can have your master class diploma right away! A tip for the future, tho: Your rigging material might be a littlle bit too thick for 1/72.

Lucien...nice work...having built this kit twice, and the ICM version, I know the fun you had both building and rigging this beast. Keep up the great work.

WOW!
That's setting the bar pretty damned high for your future builds!

Welcome to the Aerodrome.

Nice build.

Cheers,

Hugh

Lucien! (Not his real name) Its good to see you over here! Gentlefolk of the "Drome" this fine modeler has been seen modeling Russian Qintiplanes in the brail scale. He genuinely models on the far rim. I have been watching his build over on that other USA site. May I say, this is most impressive sir!

Hi Lucien,

You built a really nice model of a not so nice kit and for your second biplane this is most impressive.

I didn't know that they had such big trees in Russia
