1/32 Scale Linen Substitute

Ok.... To bring my thread to the rightful place....I hope.
Special Hobby Nieuport 11....Linen Substitute?

What would you use to cover a wire frame rudder and horizontal stabilizer?(I formed them out of brass wire; now all I have to do is hunt down my soldering kit....hmmm???)

I'm also planning a ripped up section of the body near the tail...framed in styrene....but still the problen of a covering????

Here's my idea (let me know what you think)....
Paint one side of clear or opaque cellophane with a linen color suitably streaked to give it some texture (inside). Then paint the other side the same but add the color, ie camo, aluminum, cdl...etc.

I just can't imagine an actual fabric having the correct "thinness".
Especially after the paint.

So what do you think? Shoot myself in the foot and just be done with it?
Or trodge on in spite of myself?

well , young poandneedy i have built several of eduards ' stripdown ' kits and done them as 1/2 covered . i first tried decal paper . no good . it can be applied but is too fragile . then i remembered some material i used on some small flying models that i'd done - ' lightspan ' it is very similar to doped lightweight tissue in texture . ' tacked ' onto a pre gummed structure with a moderatly hot iron it will tauten just like fabric . except on the eduard models it was stuck on with thin superglue . then carefully heated , and then trimmed . a panel at a time . the surface effect is very realistic . ( it has a shiny and semi matt sides , i used it shiny side up ) . it takes all types of paint and decals quite nicely and comes in a range of colours . i use the ' antique ' one for a cdl finish - i have some ' pc 10 ' and ' white ' . the pc 10 is a bit too translucent really so i just use the antique anyway , the white i shall use on my new 1/72 wright flyer ( when i get around to it ! ) it comes in a folded sheet about 3 feet square . enough for loads of models ! available here in the u.k. at most good r.c. model shops it cost me £1.50 a sheet , enough to make me go blind . check it out - lightweight covering materials

I agree with Blimp. I used "antique linnen" (heat shrink) made for 1/4 scale models..! But I think it worked out fine.
Once applied , you can not tell the scale of the covering.
