Alright class settle down. The question was what is the Theorum of Progression ? Much like a stooge that falls from a flag pole mounted outside a window of a 17 story building the 'progression develops' ;

1. As soon as you scratchbuild a model, a manufacturer will release a vacuform kit of it.

2. As soon as you finish the vacuform kit, an injected molded version of the prototype will be released.

3. As soon as you convert the the injected molded kit to the version you want, your version will be released by another manufacturer who will include the refined versions of the decals, resin or photo etch that you had suggested to them on their website. But they will not mention you or provide you with gratis examples for your trouble.

4. You can't win.

5. You can't break even.

6. but you can publish an article that will give you a chance to review the final kit and point out it flaws.

Next Pop quiz what is 'The Law of Finite Differences'?

Steve:

Could the Law of Finite Differences refer to a manufacturer's making diffenent versions of the same basic kit by adding places on the model for the parts that were unusable in the previously released kit, like Hasegawa does a lot, or am I totally off base?

You are not off base. But sometimes the kit manu. forgets to include the parts for the kit you thought you purchaced.

Does anyone else have 14 spare parts boxes, never to be used because the missing part is never in the spares.

ref. full size, the same is true with auto mech. you never have a spare of the part that just dropped...where? or the bolt that just broke.

Hey TopGun:

Don't you ever have to go to work? I know what you mean about auto mechanics. It also applies to handyman jobs around the house. I just refinished my daughter's closet door. Only original parts missing were the hinge pins. Bought replacements, and wouldn't you know.... the door binds and can't close completely. I'll have to "plane" it. Sigh. ???

To follow up on Modeling 101, , Finite Progressions etc., after you have completed your model after what you considered an exhausting search (perhaps even years) for all the details you wanted but missing just one more that you would have liked to include so you either omit or "imagineer" it; the heretofore unpublished picture will appear.

Welcome to the class drIace and to the 'drome'. Specifically the 'Law of Finite Differences' in modeling says that 'In most people's minds, the line between being different and being weird is thin and easily crossed.'

Now class, there have been several of you who have asked (offline) '...In the Laws (of Modeling) introduction , why is the Rosemont Atlee 1/48 scale pilot the best value?'

Simply put 'it fills the hole' where some modelers would rather replace aircraft cockpit details
(because their 'Fiddly' or wind up in the 'Black Hole') with a pilot figure. We are not forgetting the daredevils who model in 1/72. Its just that with Preiser of Germany and their spares from the standard Airfix, Revell or the old New Hope Design figures the 1/72 scale modeler's have a wider variety of choices.

Next Pop Quiz: What is the'Thick Thumb Theorum'?

And that's why you're only one victory away from being a double ace, Steve. Way to go, teach.

I feel like PeteLH just put an apple on my com'puter. No its not a Mac... :

The 'Thick Thumb Theorum' states that 'the difficulty in reaching a seam union, (so to sand smooth said seam) is directly proportionate to the mismatch of the parts by both the manufacturer's desire for simplicity and the resultant attempt of the modeler to do it right.' Hence the reason we all tend to feel like a Rhino glueing petals on a rose at times.

Next Pop Quiz: What is the unofficial Rules for Parlimentary Procedures and Monthy Club Meetings' for any Modeling Club?

PeteLH.

No work, the definition of retired.

StephenL,

You forgot 1/144th scale....discussed else where.
A WWI fighter would be the size of my fat finger.

I dislike club meeting, the management always wants a cheer. Or go Army (a.f, or Navy) or secret hand shakes.

Is this a club?
