Just as a reminder Staaken R.30 was covered in the normal 5 colour printed loz. But the rest had painted lozenge over all or large portions of their airframe overpainted dark single colour. As Derry has pointed out.

"I'll make the changes as soon as I can. It can be somewhat confusing for the novice. All the aircraft up to the Aviatik and L planes were PAINTED. Construction photos such this quite well. Printed only means the "scheme" style in these cases. We're talking Staakens here. And they were all (with one exception) painted to simulate "printed schemes". . . .the Gotha sheets should arrive shortly. The 1st sheets are for 5 Colour printed Night Scheme for Gothas and the fabric WAS printed Lozenge linen.

The 2nd style will be in the same colours but for a 5 Colour Printed REPEATING pattern. I'll go over to the forum and try and straighten out some of the confusion. Thanks for the update!

Cheers, Derry"

Say, Derry. Forget all this Lozenge business and bring out more RCW decals.

My Gallery
Big difference.

Derry:
There is abig difference between printed, (repeating pattern) and painted pattern, which is random non-repeating pattern.
There is some confusion in what you have stated in your reponse.

I hate to beat this subject to death, but I have a question for any of you experts on the issue of night lozenge. I have just received my Orion Night Lozenge decals and they are indeed the works of art as the rest of you have described. However, I have read this entire thread 4 times and the Orion instruction/description sheet several times, pulled out my Staaken datafile, pulled out my stash of Americal decals, etc., and still for the life of me, cannot figure out which aircraft subject these decals should go on.

I have:

both Roden Staaken models, 27/16 and 52/17

all Roden Gotha models, G.V and G.Va/b

and two Friedrichschafen G.II/III bombers

Which of these models are the Orion decals best suited for at this time, if any? I was a liitle confused by the enclosed list of Staaken planes and the descriptions of whether they were covered in pre-printed or painted fabrics. Of course, the lozenge decals (colors and patterns) in the kits also add to the confusion - no surprise there.

Thanks anyone.

Hello, Mr. Lawson,

Earlier in this thread, you posted some pictures of a Staaken wing using Orion's new night lozenge decals. Was that wing from Roden's early Schutte-Lanz R.VI 27/16?

Thanks.

Actually that was an old 1/72 Contrail Zep Staaken R.VI Vacuform kit. In my original build I discarded all of the underside sections for flat sheet plastic.

One more on line thread on the subject and Staaken differences is
Here.

RCW Decals

Hi Matt!

I know, I know! But I HAVE to get the lozenge out first.

As a matter of fact I'm working on some interesting Soviet Patriotic slogans on R-1's right now in the shop on a warm rainy Sunday morning in Toronto! Rather peaceful with Classical music in the background! It's too slick!

It appears I'm going have to do these the old way on transparencies and let Vickie layer them as she sees fit. I'll send you some gif's of the artwork when I'm close to completion.

Thanks for writing!
