Sreiko,
Would it be possible for you to post the picture on here?
Cheers,

Sreiko- Those are castor oil streaks. Stephen is right. The plywood covered axle wings were painted solid olive.

Sreiko:

I am enjoying your build. Your rendition of the streaked camo is well done. Many modelers find it hard to reproduce.

Looking at your image of the top wing, it looks as if Eduard has the inspection window in the wrong place and the saw tooth treatment of the leading edge ply lives on. With all the printed images and info available, it still seems these details elude the kit makers. sigh ...

Thank you Tom I will see again about the detail you have mentioned.

Taz- if this is castrol oil, why it look the same as the wings leading edge [I have intentionaly put arrows to note this] and why is this lighjt color and not the very dark as the area covered with dark green paint?

Cheers

I have check out many of the images of Fokker Dr.I and if this 102/17 have solid green in this area, then many or all of them have the same. This building subject is not easy at all and after this one many things will be changed. Especially if I decide to build Voss plane next!!!

Sreiko some of the concern lay in the lighting of the image you are using here. The plywood Axle wing was overpainted solid green and the dripping oil from the engine cylinder heads (when then the motor was off) soaked into the surface and causing most of this effect.

In flight the propllor wash threw the excess raw dripping back along the surface. While the burn oil exhaust added to the patina.

I do understand what you said. Now- did all the rest have solid green coat and why is this angled as the stroke on the surface?

I will try to be on your side- solid covering is excellent seen on the airplane 160/17 so it is possible that you are definitely right. This machine is very new and feature two important things- solid cover on the axle wing cover and different color of the engine cowling! As I state in one post and this was confmed by other member, this is very possibly caused by the heat of the engine under it.
