Building the Model Expo Sopwith Camel

Hello everyone. I'm new to this excellent forum.

I'm building the Model Expo 1/16th Sopwith Camel. I've just finished the engine stage and in a fit of hubris am posting pictures in case anyone is interested.

I am not an experienced builder, obviously.

Faults:
- Prop too chunky.
- Metal too shiny.
- Didn't install the tappet seats because I think they look too much like office supplies.
- Thread representing spark-plug wires has dodgy knots.
- Fur on hand gives me a suspiciously simian appearance in close-up.

But I am having fun!

If anyone has any ideas about how to tone down the Brittannia metal now that it's all assembled, I'd be interested in that.

Using Tamiya Acrylic Smoke with brush or airbrush is one simple sollution to tone the metal down and give it a oily look.

We are always keen to see others builds.

Maybe give it a spray with Tamiya Smoke? and then a flat top coat.

Cheers,

Hugh

Thanks. I'll give Tamiya X-19 Smoke a try.

Ah, and the funny shape of one propeller tip is due to my two-year-old helping behind my back. Happens.

engine

Hi there!
A good tip os also to put here and there some clear varnish slightly tinted with red, some with blue, on the cylinders thus giving the engine a used appearance.
Ciao

Hello, Crosshair,

Welcome to the Aerodrome: always good to get new members involved, and to see their work!

I've only a bit to add, as I have used thinned Tamiya Smoke for the purpose stated, with good results. You might add a smidge of brown to the Smoke to give a slightly oily look. I've also sprayed a very thinned coat of Testors Rubber for the same purpose: 1/32nd scale below -

Other than that, all I can say is: Good Luck" with your build!
