Sorry I know I commiting the ultimate sin by double posting, but work has started on the Brisfit, a lot of the paintwork is done on first coats I will add the photo's of it so far later today after I return from my flight on a Douglas DC3 Dakota


I also have a question, what easily available product can be used in 1/72 scale to get realistic looking bracing wire? As I feel without it my models are lacking the finishing touch

In 1/72 try invisible sewing thread (smoke coloured.) Also here is a walkaround of the one at Hendon.

Rigging a Brisfit

For the Airfix Brisfit can I suggest "Lycra knitting-in elastic", which appears to be almost the same as Aeroclub rigging elastic. For a thorough job drilling, threading and pegging 11oz fishing line is thinner and stronger but frankly for an Aifix brute like that, too much effort! Try a drop of cyanoacrylate at the strut roots after the plane's together and gently stretch long runs of the elasticated stuff across wherever you want it. Start at the inside and work outwards. Finding this thread has become harder for some reason, a decent knitting or craft shop might help. Don't use the standard "knicker elastic" thread, it's too thick and could ping your struts out! Have fun.

Thankyou for those suggestions

The Brisfit is waiting for a trip to the model shop for some more paint so until then I workin on some of my other WW1 types, I recently finished my first German a Revell Fokker E.III which I put the riging on and am now working on a Revell Albatros D.III which I am doing as the Red Baron's I expect to be told he didn't fly one of those and if he did it wasn't blood red, as I wasn't sure I have carried on and it doesn't look too bad so I'll finish it as one and then if it isn't the correct model of Alb then I will do the correct plane in the future

FokkerJ - I too am a brush painter - more zen, less tech. Perhaps we should have a sub-group for brush painters. I use Games Workshop acrylics almost exclusively. Excellent paint, and the bottles seal perfectly all the time.

I stopped scale modelling in about 1968, and only re-started about 3 years ago. Lots of things have changed. Sounds familiar, me too! I'm still trying my luck at 1/72", but am tooled up for 1/48" also. A good pair of magnifying "OPTI-VISOR"s works well for me.

well the E.III and Albatros D.III are finished as is the Nieuport 28 C1 which is also a Revell kit, now working on a Morane Saulnier N, the only others of my WW1 that are able to be done are the Fokker Dr.1 (looking for simple suggestions, have considered Lother Von Richthofen to go with the Albatros of his brother but would that be better with 2 Dr.1's?) and thats well it really all my others are RFC or needing needing the same colour that halted the Bristol Fighter so are unable to be done they are Revell Sopwith F1 Camel, Spad XIII C-1 and Airfix Bristol Fighter, Sopwith Pup and R.E.8. (I wont mention my 13 other kits lol

Apologies for the delayed reply.

We are all here to learn from each other. My comment on the "middle wing not sitting all of the way home" is that a quick reference of the REVELL 3-view drawing should show the middle wings equal or slightly above the top of the fuselage.

thanks FokkerJ I understand what you mean now the tripe suffered a fall and been broken thanks to a friend tripping over but it has given me the chance to alter the wings to make them how the should be

As for keeping it fun, I have never enjoyed modeling so much before starting WW1 planes has been one of the best moves I have made I intend to put them into a skirmish on the ceiling to help save shelf space I may well be tempted to attempt a 48th or 32nd scale Sopwith Triplane as it is my favorite but we shall see , I shall return later with piccies of my current collection
